yeah h10/17r, it was good, ive been super busy and barely riding so wasnt feeling so strong, ended up with a short 23 which im happy enough with, thought it would be worse tbh. nice one to improve from :)

frustratingly clocked 1h00m35s in the Lea Valley MG 72" on fixed yesterday, 115 av cadence. oh well..next year for another go.

As any experienced tester knows, 35s is an eternity. 1:0:03 is frustrating, 1:0:35 is down to you not being good enough 🙂
Back in the olden days one of our club members did a 1:0:xx at least once a year for several years before finally getting under for the first time. -

hah, thanks for the confidence boost tester :). I was a little reserved heading down the sliproad and a bit slow getting on to four went ways RB - dropped to 14 mph waiting for a car. I couldnt handle the tailwind out, at times the revs went up to 130-140 and i couldnt stay on the aero bars - too low and short. It felt like i was trying to do the plank the whole way round which distracted me a little from what my legs were doing. I think i have a new appreciation of the difficulty - not that i underestimated it. Grey Turnocks advice was along the lines of i use a freewheel- he set a 54 something. I kind of see the E2 as everest - tourists, where as the MG event is more like K2, slightly more nutty, bit of a killer etc

What cranks are you using? If I thought I was going to get under on my normal bike, gearing would be 100"/177.5mm. To match that gain ratio on MG, it would be 72"/127.5mm. The shortest I've gone is 140mm, and they still felt pretty soft on 72", equivalent to 91" on my normal cranks. There are other potential gains to be had from short cranks; I couldn't find them when on free-choice gearing, but YMMV -

went with 145s, i was at the turn in 27m45 but clearly didnt meet the rev requirement on the way back.

Gray Turnock is ridiculous, his cadence in MG events is incomprehensible.

Dolan TC1 all built and ready to go, 1st outing H10/8 Thursday night, I'm planning on lowering my Hounslow & Dist. WLRS club 10 record (currently 23:39) I'm hoping/wondering if the new bike is faster than my Paké. (Gel280, Zonda and Corima Aero+ wheels)

You might well mention Alf Whiteway and his enthusiasm for low fixed gears.

Just don't count the teeth on the chainring, it's got 48 teeth! I've ordered a 49T its not arrived yet.
In response to clubmans thread, I started riding in 1985 I joined the Clarence Wheelers , Alf Whiteway ran the club, his attitude was "low gears" learn to pedal he used to say 66" (42x17) if he saw you out riding and he saw you on the 15, did he bollock you down the club on a Thursday night!! Alf was a real exponent of riding low gears, he was the driving force behind Tony Doyle (world pursuit champion 1980/86) and Ray Hughes a "master twiddler"
My love of riding fixed stems back years but recently I built my Paké fixed wheel TT bike, (frame/forks purchased from Pro Cyclery in Las Vegas in 2011) some of my best rides have been on fixed, hence the Dolan TC1, I hope the bikes faster, its considerably lighter, I'm hoping I can do a few decent rides on it in the future. My forms not as good as in previous seasons but I'm plugging away this year. I'm looking forward to Thursday I just hope my legs are good (I'm riding the a3crg 15 on P884/15b on Wednesday, I'm hoping to lower my HDW 15 record on the Wednesday) so, if my legs are ok and the weather is favourable I hope to beat my existing record. Here's to Thursday and H10/8.

Check your rollout before leaving home, I think 49/18 with Conti Sprinter tubular is going to be 72.5". You could only really get away with the extra tooth in the old days by using an 18 or 19mm tubular. With a 22mm tub, I think 54/20 is right on the limit at 71.95" in theory.
Have you tried the 160mm cranks yet?

Thanks Dave. The bike is actually a nightmare to keep clean. Matte paint a silly choice.
