  • What would be a very good price be?

  • Not for me to speculate online, don't want to tread on toes. Let me ask. Will PM.

They prob have gold in stock but would you prefer steel?

  • I suspect I'm also on the look out for well priced (new) Max Bill Automatic or Meister Handwinding

I suggested to my girlfriend that she should get on that cheap Max Bill on the Liberty site if she was looking to buy me a birthday present but I very much suspect she wasn't quick enough.

  • @root and @aggi

Both of you get into Alsal and try them on and have the conversation. They always have them in stock and are competitive. Happy to let them know that you'll be in touch.

  • I'm after steel I think. Doesn't need to be new. Will pop into Alsal when I'm next in London.

  • Follow up question. Can I wear a gold watch and a brushed silver ring?

  • Yes.

    No laws against it

  • That's the plan at some point. I've been there a few times with various repairs but the opening hours make it a little awkward.

  • I’ve not been in here much recently, money has been going on guitars and bikes instead. But here is a prototype of the Smiths Everest Expedition, same case as the recent 36mm Smiths Everest, and styled after vintage Smiths De Luxe watches instead of the Rolex 1016. I think it looks astonishingly pretty.

  • numerals are great!

  • Other way around would be the way to do it, not sure what a gold watch with silver bezel would look like, but I don’t imagine it would work visually.

  • I thought the question was more like a ring on a finger than on the watch.

  • Whoops!

Well at least I got to post a pic of one of my favourite Zeniths 😂

  • Lumed Gill Sans, especially on a British watch, is pretty nice. Don’t think I’ve seen that before (maybe a bit surprised that I haven’t actually, feels like something Farer or Bremont might have done).

  • Very similar to the 50’s Deluxe Expedition pattern, minus the sub seconds dial, but with a nod to the Everest’s with the red second hand.

It’s a lovely thing that is

  • Tomorrow is friday.... Just sayin... Whatever it is... Proud to wear it? Proud to show it!

  • Cute on that strap. Aren't the lugs slimmer than on the 36mm Everest case? Nice.

  • It does look nice. The problem is that it’ll be manufactured in seven batches and the sales process involves a guy called Ken posting an ad in the back of the Tunbridge Wells parish newsletter. Smiths do have a website but it’s never updated and anyway only works in Netscape Navigator 3, so you won’t hear about how to actually buy this watch save for an obscure Yahoo mailing list of a few hundred enthusiasts, who coincidentally are all also named Ken.

  • On the depth front - apparently this is good to 10924m. That’s pretty deep for a desk!

  • Not bad that. I really liked this as well - one off titanium Vacheron Overseas Dual Time.

  • Jesus, I only realised it was Friday from reading this thread!

    That's depressing.
