  • It's depressing to see/hear Priti Patel back on the circuit advocating aggressively for Johnson. That raises the awful prospect of her taking on a cabinet position in his government.

  • +1 truly an awful person.

  • Apologies, I totally misunderstood. I thought you were referring to Boris Johnson.

  • Interesting, I would have had her in the Rabb camp in terms of views and shut down parliament to get a no deal. But having said that she’s probably more interested in get her own career back on track, so is hoping to back the winner. Then get a few more free trips to Israel fund raising for her own PM ambitions.

  • It’s strange that in my world if you get booted out from your job (Patel, Bojo, etc) get caught fiddling your expenses or generally lying your career is fucked. But in the fun world of Tory politics it’s a gold fucking star on your twatfest cv

  • Tigger

Looks like he's going to flounce...

  • Is anyone else worried that Johnson is being held against his will, and has been silenced so he wins the leadership, even though he knows it will be a disaster?

    I blame Murdoch.

  • Hancock out.

  • I can’t believe Boris is going to become PM . It’s too ridiculous.

More ridiculous that Jeremy Corbyn is the leader of the opposition. If you'd said that 5 years ago people would've said you're mad. And I support Corbyn, and fuck the Lib Dems.

    Fnar.

  • It was interesting hearing Matthew Paris on Any Questions say that he thought the Conservative party members would consider Johnson's record (rather than his personality) when making their decision. He distinguished the behaviour of the members from that of Conservative MPs (who are, in many cases, acting out of their own career interests). I'm not sure it's a credible argument but it provides some faint hope in these otherwise forlorn times.

  • I think he's dealing in hope, after his previous published comments on Johnson. I'm afraid I can't see most of the membership looking beyond the poll results the other day and their own innate prejudice.

  • I'm inclined to agree. It's just that clutching at hope feels better than collapsing into despair :) Still, it will be interesting to see whether the outcome of the members' vote is less of a landslide than current speculation might suggest.

  • Surely we want Johnson? He’s the most likely to be being purely cynical with what he’s saying at the moment.

  • I’d take him 100 times over Raab

  • I'd have Johnson over any other candidate except Rory.

  • Are you serious?

(if anyone hasn't seen this the bit about him is from 7 mins 10 ish)

  • I dunno, I guess the non-Rory crowd all all pretty awful.

  • Posh chubby adult baby

  • Whoever wins will be PM until the end of November- Rory for e.g. is campaigning for that contest, not the current one.

  • Raab is looking like the biggest c*** in the Tory Party right now
