I don’t have a thread gauge, but maybe?
That sounds like the least destructive way of fixing this, but I don’t know where to buy said insert from.
It is just a top hat (badly) welded into the bracket.

For e.g. this, turned down and welded to the bracket?

Seat belt bolts are an industrial standard, 7/16" which was set by Volvo when they invented seat belts and no ones bothered to change the standard to metric until quite recently.
I recon a modified version of what you've found on ebay would work, or i could turn something up for you if you send the dims

I can measure the part in the 964 bracket and send that info over? If you could turn up a part that would be awesome.
-
• #48331
Yeah send that over, i'll see what mild steel stock i have and we'll go from there

Yeah everything except the flywheel was replaced, apparently they thought the flywheel looked ok so left it in. Hoping it's the throwout bearing as that'll be a warranty job.

where was that?

Go for it. I haven't regretted a moment if mine other than how many pricks have doored it in car parks. It's basically made up my mind to get it wrapped though as I couldn't stomach a nice paint job being so abused.

Nice. Yeah there's one I pass on my commute every day that always has roofbars with two bike racks on top. Easy to imagine myself having the same setup ;)
Hard to find one with decent mileage though

Yeah they're absolutely great, the age is making it hard to find a super clean one though alright. Mine is the 2.4 JTDM Q-Tronic which is fantastic. It's a dream to drive, reasonably spacious and hasn't given me any issues at all so far!

had to 'oi' one of those fucking cyclists today from the little car.
all easy really but he banged into the car with his bike trailer trying to filter thru impossible gap. Well a gap that was made possible I suppose by the little car.
no damage done and he was very apologetic.

Ha! Well all cars shit themselves periodically so might as well drive one you like. Or dislike less. God I hate cars, what am I doing in this thread. Anyway I need to sort the volvo out before I do anything else, can't sell it with a rumbling clutch.

golf needed £130's worth of welding to pass its mot something to do with the around seatbelt mount (not sure - is this a big warning sign?) (https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/140329/?offset=48325#comment14775396)
not sure if I should still go for it. I okayed the garage to do it for around £50-150 when they rang me yesterday, but the signed piece of paper says I'd have an MOT'd golf for £900, not £1030
-
• #48349
Did they say whether the welding was to the seatbelt mounting or to the shell/chassis near to where the seatbelts mount? I guess the car is 13 years old but I'm surprised that it would need significant welding to pass an MOT
-
• #48350
If there’s corrosion within a set distance of a seat belt mounting point it’s an MOT fail
New Velodrome is beautifully empty, and you know the rest. Studied there and lived there for a year at RDH. I miss it. Would move back if I could.
