  • Wander Wye GPS route is on the email sent out a couple of weeks ago.
Are we expecting another one or should I start cutting it up?

  • From the yacf forum, apparently final route check was this weekend just gone. So I'd expect something soon. Don't like not being able to get sorted early in the week.

  • Yeah was looking at the hotels but at £90 don't think I'll bother.
Anyone with experience of the hall being used?

  • The hall is for people that booked the sleep stop there early. No beds, no covers, so BYOB.
There was a guy offering a hotel room on YACF.

"There are no beds or blankets at our overnight community hall control in Chepstow, so you are advised to bring a small inflatable mattress and a sleeping bag. You may also want to bring a change of kit for the Sunday. Please pack these items into one small bag max 5kg with your name on an attached label, and leave this with us at the start.
We are short of sleeping space at Chepstow, so riders who entered the ride after 1st November on the basis that they will find alternative accommodation must not sleep at the hall. Any others who prefer to sleep in greater comfort will find a Travelodge just over the other side of the Severn Bridge, or a Premier Inn at Alveston."

I've experienced the hall but not as a sleep stop. It's pretty small from memory.

  • How much were they after?

Yeah saw that might just pack a bag then.
I booked on early so do I have a space to sleep that was a bit unclear to me or did I need a certain action after booking on.

  • Pretty sure I've been there before, but not as a sleep control. So can't really comment about accoustics. But, as Hippy said, it's only for people who entered before November. And it's the bagdrop location.

    Redundant info post Hippy edit.

  • Ah should be ok then entered in Oct

  • I snuck in 31st October at 10pm. Ha. Hope the route out of London is faster than the stop start run into Paddington a few weeks ago.

  • Just received an update email.

  • @hippy looks like Crackpot will be running as a calendar event in June next year

  • May do the Windmill ride instead as it’s easier lots more train options via from Liverpool Street.

  • Really? That, along with the Pendle, have been on my todo list for ages. I bet it clashes with something though. Where'd you see that? YACF?

  • Shawn Shaw posted it on Facebook

  • @mustardbeak that looks so evil I might have to ride it.

  • Fair! I may not ride at all that weekend as we’re doing the overnight ride to the stones on the Thursday before.

  • Ah the d forgotten I’d put my name down for the Friday splitters ride. Too much choice!

  • If they're gonna run it as a calendar event that should make it a little easier. There's been a few guys, mostly the ACH fixed nutters, who've been doing it DIY over the years. I'd prefer to do calendar event but I've not managed to get it done as a DIY due to time so it's gonna depend on clashes.

  • Yeah I think I'd prefer to do it as a calendar and certainly not with the ACH fixed nutters, nice as they all are. I'm gonna pencil the dates for this and see how next year looks.

  • My plan next year was the Wessex SR and possibly LEJOG as a group perm, but if it runs as a calendar it would be my best ever chance to do Crackpot, as I certainly wouldn't attempt it DIY.

  • A question I can never quite find an answer to on AUK: Can you ECE a perm?

ie riding to and from the start of the London Orbital as a perm would add on an extra 100km, can I just ECE it as a 400km instead of a 300km?

  • I think not, as ece refers to calendar events. You could just do whole thing as a DIY

  • Weather looking a bit shit for Wander Wye...

  • Skin is waterproof right? Just discovered my coat wets out in 30 seconds of June rain. Also, Cotswolds baguettes seem very efficient when placing order.

  • I’ve booked a hotel.
I’ll order my baguette later today.
