Can you recreate the click using your hand on the pedal? That would eliminate the cleat.
Actually, if you swapped cleats already and it still made noise it's probably the pedal.
It could be that the butterflies are worn and so the cleats aren't engaging as much as they used to, so they're a bit sloppy and the 'click' is them moving a bit.
You can get bearing replacement kits for them. I've done a few swaps myself. Bit of a pain but doable.
Nice one. If I push down on if I’m just wearing normal shoes it clicks too, just not as bad. Maybe I’ll swap out the bearings then, or check how cost effective that is vs just replacing them as they are already quite old
