It is all part of the "culture wars": Pit one group as completely different from another (as if LGBT Christians and conservatives don't exist...), generate a media circus and don't ask yourself if you really benefit from all this fear mongering by people pulling the strings and your own reaction.
And like with Farage and others the opinions are so ridiculous and genuinely unwholesome some people will lose their patient and be blunt, fuelling the victim narrative that already exists.
Sometimes it feels the world needs a group hug.
