  • Be good to have a FAQ for loads of this stuff. But even with a FAQ people are too lazy to search and will just ask again anyway. I know I do, if nothing else to stimulate a conversation about something.

  • I'm not super heavy (70kg) but have a sea to summit ultralight insulated. Side sleep is great on it.

  • You.

  • I got two synthetic sleeping bags. A tiny cheap Amazon one which is only good in summer and a massive 3 season Snugpak Travelpak 3.
I'd like to have something in the form factor the Aegismax UL or similar as a more all around (3 Season) solution for bikepacking. I've been looking at down quilts but couldn't find anything that is not £300 custom made but warm enough.

Does anybody have a awesome recommendation for a 3 season lightweight, compact and affordable quilt? Should I stop whining and just get a nice one?

Or does it make sense do use my tiny sleeping bag in combination with something like the Alpkit Cloud Cover or a BIG AGNES Kings Canyon UL Quilt to layer up if needed?
This would most probably still be easier to pack then my Snugpak.

  • Go to Decathlon or get something nice
christ I am bored of typing the same thing over and over in this thread

  • Can you do an autoreply to all enquiries?

On an unrelated subject. Can anyone recommend a down sleeping bag for under a hundred quid?

    Lols.

  • Well then don’t do it.

  • @hippy title edit ... just go to decathlon ?

  • None of my stuff came from Decathlon so I'm not sure it's an accurate title choice.

@platypus seems to forget the option of not replying is there. I prefer UTFS and JFGI but I think we lost the title of Friendliest Forum on the Internet a while ago.

    Yes...

To clarify: I used the search function and therefore I know that @platypus swears solemnly on the Katabatic Gear Palisade. I was jut hoping to find something slightly cheaper or at least something I don't have to order in the US. I never asked for a under a hundred quid sleeping bag. I would be perfectly able to find that on my own. I just don't have any experiences with quilts and I thought before I spend £200-300 I might just ask again.

But enough of that. To push the conversation forward I am currently very intrigued by the CUMULUS Quilt 350. It's a bit more in my price range, available in Europe and seems to receive good reviews.

Everybody feel free to not answer.

  • The Cumulus 350 is okay.
Flat quilts are not generally the best as it makes the footbox uncomfortable and underinsulated when you have it tightened up. Shaped quilts make more sense most of the time.

I don't recommend it as it's not much better than a Decathlon bag. Maybe slightly better.
Whereas something by As Tucas or Katabatic would be a lot better, for a little more money.

  • Actually yeah, buy this instead. Same price, much better made, can do small custom things.
    https://www.astucas.com/en/products/sestrals-quilt/

  • Apparently the new Cumulus design has "flaps" over the zipper and the hole at the bottom when tightened up.

The As Tucas looks interesting as well. Weight and price seems alright but I can't find any numbers on volume when packed up. Are they going to be more bulky because they are synthetic?

  • Still a flat quilt so suboptimal foot box. I would avoid it.

  • Any opinions on Thermarest Uberlite? Will I get cold on it given that I used a ProLite in -20 Celsius and was toasty?

Anyone interested in a ProLite? Size regular, £40.

  • Anyone got experience of the eurohike down bag? Need something cheap small warmish for trans Cambrian

  • A lot of people on here recommend decathlon for best value for money. Either spend a bit more on this and be toasty and also have something for colder months. Or get this one. Maybe you will have to wear a layer underneath as the temperature doesn't go as low. However the Eurohike is a little vague on how much down is in the bag but as it is a mix of down and synthetic and a similar pack size to this decathlon, which is all down. I think that means the decathlon will be as warm, possibly warmer.

  • Here's something new in sleeping bag land
Rab new Mythic Ultra range uses a titanium coating to make the fabric way warmer for the same weight!

  • I reckon it will be £1,000 given their current prices!

Could be a useful link.

  • Great quilt. But madly overpriced. I paid 200 for a lightly used Palisade a few years ago.

  • I have tried to search the thread about this with little luck.

Lightwight sleeping matts? Alpkit Numo vs Decathlon's Forclaz Trek (the short one). Alpkit is more ££ but full length, but I am a short person so... Any others to consider?
