Well, it will centre the bearing properly. The other dimension is height, if the new one is different from the old one you may need to add/subtract shims to get the gap between the cover and the head tube right, but as long as it's above zero that's more a cosmetic issue than a functional one.
From a functional point of view there are two flavours, 36° and 45°. You need to use the right one.
