Your 1/8th Chainset
Every cloud has a silver lining - now you can recognise the difference between 1/8 and 3/32 by eye!
It's only the ring that's 1/8th, you need a 3/32 ring with the right bolt circle diameter for your crank.
If your chainset is TA , I would happily swop your ring for a 3/32, or buy it (assuming it's not clapped out or a silly size).
As mentioned elsewhere, I'm away till next weekend.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.
The lock ring is loose and easy, just wanted to tighten it in place.
So was looking for a wrench for it and thought was maybe a particular size? -

Mmm doesn't look like a Gillott at all indeed.

I think you’re missing the obvious solution. @richardshill just needs another bike 🙃

Not going to let this beat me.

• #1707
Is also my worry :)

Something like a Williams 46 or 48 single ring 3/32th...
-
• #1709
Well, that’s something at least. Every cloud, etc.
That’s a fabulous offer. However things only got worse, as you can see...

I think that may be an answer, as building a bike around a component I don’t have seems to be a bad idea. Perhaps I need to also take this to the ‘I have no idea what I’m doing’ thread...

Something like that would be ideal! Have just had a look and Hilary stone has a Williams for £33, will drop him an email if nothing comes up here or on retrobike :/

You can have that for the same price you paid the other, 20 pounds + shipping

Mine too, (riding limited) but I am fully intending to be there

Hobbs decals on this frame with the build all over the place with the parts used.
H/T lugs are similar to the "Continental superbe" but are not that model as far as I can tell.

That's actually a Williams C34, but none the worse for that - in fact it's one of my favourite chainsets.

Excellent!

• #1721
Possibly, I think I've got confused with a C1000 that I've got for the Holdsworth
-
• #1722
Just checked, the C34 has double chainring, mine only one. Which is exactly the difference between a C34 and a C1000 (being also lighter in material), so no, mine is a C1000.

Right, late night build. I’m back in business. I was a bit worried I wasn’t going to get this ready for Sunday.
Everything on and nipped up. Modern pedals aren’t too noticeable, but that UNO seatpost is all I’ve managed to get so I’ll try to conceal it in some way. Hopefully I’ll fit it up properly tomorrow, then see if I can get some miles in Thurs/Fri/Sat and iron out any bugs.

What size seatpost does it take? I've got a Reynolds R5 27.2 I was going to put up on ebay if you fancy first dibs on that. It's in good condition

Sounds perfect - how much were you looking for?
Gillott 58cm (listed as Gillot)
