I’ve found the magsafe adapters indestructible tbh
SMC reset has always done the job when what you describe had happened.

I think it was you whom I offered to lend an old charger to last year? I have still got it and you can have it if it’s what you need. I was keeping it for a friend but he now got a new laptop.
In fact, I am sure we have a couple of different ones in lost property that can now be given away. Will need to check and likely to be a bit grubby.

Also did you buy the charger from Apple directly? If so I’d bring it back and ask for a replacement. 13 months is just outside the wannarty window and I am sure they’d sort you out. Last thing they want is another one of their products blow up.

Idk man I buy them randomly off ebay or amazon. I get the duck head ones so I can reuse my existing adapters
Perhaps try with a “known working” psu from a mate / colleague? -

I will probably have an older Macbook Air (2013) and an Ipad for sale, along with an iPhone 7 Plus later today- just need to double check which model years and that they;re all still functioning- have just been sorting through my old pile of tech stuff.

Possibly have a buyer for you for the iPhone. How much are you thinking?

Thanks for your offer - I've actually just got back from the genius barf with a new, free adapter.
However, I also have my old one which just needed a new fuse.
So as well as two chargers I also have a red face to match my gammony indignancy that won me a free replacement in the first place.

I had already allocated 80 quid in my mind to buying a new one so I went and spent it on cider and patisserie at M&S instead.

Guess my charger will have to go back to the cupboard for the time being then... Does you new replacement come with 3 months or 12 months warranty? If it's 12 months, you might have free chargers on tap for as long as your laptop lasts...

This is way better. Don't drink and eat all £80 worth at once!!! :-P
-
• #14114
so you're all sorted and your laptop is charging? Ace! :)
-
• #14116
What are you doing to them?! The only time I’ve had a problem with them in ten years is when someone nicked one I left in an office

It seems £200 is about the price for them now. Battery health is 91% - peak performance.
So £150
Comes with an Otterbox case in black and has never not been in that.
Can't seem to get the mag-connect to charge the Air so I'll investigate that further in due course.
Ipad details when I'm home from work. -

Stupid time to buy a new iPhone as new ones this year coming soon?
-
• #14119
If you're talking XS / R / whatever they're calling them- yes- probably.
-
• #14120
New ones in September, same as every year
-
• #14121
He can’t afford it till payday... but I think he thought it’d be more than £150. Do you mind holding onto it and I’ll ask him when back at work tomorrow?
Oh and what capacity is the phone?
-
• #14122
I’m in Oz currently and an Xs would be ~£800, so a £200 saving.

• #14123
Do they sell the right version? They have different radio bands by region...
-
• #14124
The iPad I bought here last year works fine everywhere in the world I have taken it (so far)

I'll charge and check and double check its not locked to any network.
Thanks - any 3rd party ones you'd recommend? I've paid for 3 Apple chargers now for this laptop. (In fairness I left one in another country). It is MagSafe 2 and I've cleaned it but the actual contact points were already sparkling (13 months old and looked after), the 'well' area was a bit grubby but that's clean as well now with no luck. For good measure, I did an SMC/PRAM reset and still nada. There's no obvious cable damage, no brown burn marks near the power brick etc.
