Proper leather shoes

Are we done with the wedge sole? It's so comfy though...

I need shoes for a wedding (my father's second, to be specific) and I'm not sure which way to go. I'm going for grey suit trousers (these or these probably) and a white shirt. The instruction was not to be too formal, so no jacket.

After seeing loads of black leather shoes I though them all to be a bit dull, so I was thinking about something with a more 'coarse' sole. But I'm unsure if this is over the top, but no clue what else to look for. Any suggestions? (The budget is not as tight as the linked shoes, they were just the first ones I ran into I sort of liked.)

I had a hunch the discount was not a good sign.

Trickers do some nice plain Derbys. They used to do a kind of soft sole a bit like crepe but dark colour, a good alternative to leather without going to dainite. A very dark brown might be a more casual option that you can easily wear with jeans after the wedding. Only downside is they're expensive.

Red wings also did a postman model.

Had cause to visit Hendon to see a passing out parade recently and the shoes on the parade ground were much more technical than these and generally like black leather walking boots. Not really dressy at all.

Small update now that I’ve been wearing these for 2 weeks... they are great! Worn in the rain a few times, grip is superb on all surfaces so far unlike other crepe I’ve had (Clark’s etc). The foxing is tall enough that you don’t get drips on the toe area when walking which is good. The original laces kept untying themselves so I swapped out for some slightly longer tan ones... also I keep getting static shocks from tap when I walk to the kitchen...

I need shoes for my wedding - nothing exceptionally exiting, just Oxdords (unless better suggestions, going morning suit so can't be too out there).

I can get to Northampton and back on the train for £18, would this be a good idea for an outing? Looking to spend up to £200 absolute max.

Not too sure what you’ll find in your budget but I’d suggest some wholecuts

Gonna put those shoes and lasts of mine on ebay/gumtree soon if no takers.

is £200 not enough for Northampton? Got some made in UK Loakes from their Cambridge outlet for £150 a few years ago which is what I'm going off.

Aiming for the outlets, if that wasn't clear.

Call ahead to the shops and ask - if they have something then £200 should be possible.

Considered that too, am just old fashioned about buying shoes that i've not tried on.

I have a pair of almost new Barker high polish black Oxfords in size 9, probably ‘the’ wedding shoe. But you’re like size 15 or something right?

I am 8/9/10/11 depending, but mostly a 9...

I can take a photo of them later if you want. I appreciate the want for a ‘new’ shoe, but after the first scuff every shoe is just a shoe.

Having made do with Clarks leather shoes for years (sorry) I need a new pair.
A "Gentleman's outfitters " just off Baker street has Loake shoes on offer for £69
The offer has been on for over a year now and the price seems suspiciously cheap.
They look like nice shoes to me (bearing in mind the comment above re Clarks) .
I am very tempted by a pair.
Do fake Loakes exist?
Anything I should be wary of ?

Any thoughts/tips appreciated.

I think my Loakes were about £70-90 many years ago, so I doubt they're fake, probably just the budget end of their range.
