I just ordered 4 jag wire stainless cables for £7. Feel a bit shitty not buying them from the lbs but hey, I’ve got two kids to keep full of Soreen so every penny helps.

I hear this.

I get trade but still have to drag my heels at even those prices.

Tbh. Shimano is sold Online for 1p more than trade in most cases..

Probably galvanised cack not stainless

They work and cost next to nothing.

Not denying that, but £2 gets you stainless and I find it’s worth that 50p

We charge £8 for jagwire slick stainless, which is a bit steep but not too bad. The cheapo galvanised ones will work, but they'll feel worse and go rusty,only thing worse are shimano siltec, which cost loads and are super shit and ruin everything by filling outer with coating crap, I hate them.

Those ducking cables made my life hell for about 1 year until they seemed to change to the new coating!

The new blue stuff is better, but the fucking outer liner is ptfe, you don't need to coat the cable in it too. Honestly the slick jagwires feel infinitely better than any non machined ones coated in anything and they don't lose a coating or go rusty, if you don't get bored of parts or break something they last pretty indefinitely.

Not sure if the polished versions are worth more though.

Madison, the importers of Shimano, offered me a trade account with prices higher than I could buy at Chain Reaction.
Go figure.

They have different tiers of trade accounts. The bigger players get better rates. I doubt you are purchasing on the same scale as Chiggle

Only half of it, and they do price match, but it's not always worth it if you need to pay delivery and factor in VAT.

What I wondered was how much my LBS are buying them for. I mean, they'd clearly buy in large quantities, but are they still paying quite high per unit through their supplier? Can they buy elsewhere, like from china through aliexpress or ebay? surely that would be cheaper if they're getting stiffed through their supplier?

That’s why for a lot of shimano we go elsewhere..

We are on the beat listed rate but still see no margins on stuff.
