  • Because it’s too cheap?

  • anyone reccomend a cheap shoulder strap that I can use to wear my camera whilst cycling? Got a trip coming up with a fair bit of gravel and don't want to drop my camera if shooting on the move.

  • Whatever you use I recommend a second chest strap to stop it rotating. Like you get on the Chrome messenger bag.

  • yeah, that's sort of what i'm after - something with two straps. Anyone use something like that?

  • I have the Mash x OuterShell which also has a second strap around the chest. Works perfectly

  • I have that mettle one that I have used once, works well tbh

  • I use an Op Tech one with the GRII (the one for binoculars); neoprene strap stops it shoogling about. Always lives in a wee Lowepro bag if riding though; slammed right on it last month and it survived unscathed.

  • I bodged something like the Mettle strap out of some paracord and some buckles. Cost me next to nothing and works well.

  • I had one years ago and really liked the colours, much more so compared to the 6D I'm using now. Actually quite like your thinking, might pick one up for kids duty

  • Any chance of a how to?

  • Asked this in a wrong thread:

Tough cameras - what's the consensus on these things? The go-to seems to be Olympus but I'm drawn to the latest Ricoh, because Ricoh.
I currently have a Sony A6000 with the 28mm F2, which is great, but bigger and more delicate than I'd like to carry.
Honestly I never print, so would it be a huge comedown from APS C to 1/2.3 inch?

  • Maybe I should be looking at 1 inch sensors? Don't need waterproofness to 20 metres!

  • Honestly I never print, so would it be a huge comedown from APS C to 1/2.3 inch?

In all seriousness, iPhone or other phone that's weather resistant ?
Depends on what you need it to be 'tough' for I guess ?

  • iPhone and Otter case perhaps.

  • That would mean something other than my beloved SE, the form factor of which is precious to me. As far as travel goes your (and @miro_o) suggestion of a better phone would be ideal; one less thing to carry.

  • 'Tough' in this case would just mean tougher than my current a6000/28mm f2.

  • I didn't think I'd get on with the larger phone sizes, but one pair of reading glasses later and I bought the 6S+, and now the XR. Very impressed with the camera on the XR and it's weather sealed too.

  • Thanks, is the XR camera the same as the other iphones?

  • XR is the cheapest of current gen of iphone. XS and XS Max are more expensive and have dual lenses, a wide and a portrait.

First shot is a test shot I did with my XR, followed by the same scene shot on Portra on a Zeiss Nettar. No suprise that the phone is sharper than a 60 year old folding camera, but was suprised at how good the colours are on the phone compared to Portra.

Considering ditching most of my digital and 35mm cameras and just keeping the XR and my Mamiya medium format gear at this point.

  • I think I am gonna sell the XT-20

    Has this been resolved yet?

  • A proper camera won't be obsolete and it's performance cut by the manufacturer in 18 months. Also, their batteries are replacable not glued in.
    Basically, Apple is evil.

  • Impressive for sure, thanks for that.

  • Also true.
    Ah me, life is hard.

  • Most proper* cameras seem to obsolete themselves after 18 months judging by the rate people buy upgrades of digital cameras.

    *What's a 'proper' camera ?

  • A proper camera is a device which has the recording of images onto digital or analogue media as it's primary function.
I agree that consumers tend to follow the same upgrade pattern with cameras as they do with phones, but I consider digital decay to be more of an actual usability issue with phones rather than cameras.

My 8-year-old Nikon D700 operates as fast today as when I bought it - I'm pretty sure smartphones of the same vintage are pretty much useless bricks today.
