Yeah the front went on just fine, but the rear is stubborn as hell. Tube overnight and the above tips didn't seem to work, so think I'll take everything off and start from scratch again with different tape

Don't forget the fairy liquid soapy sponge to the rim method .

sponge to the rim
Somebody should come up with a handy product to fulfil that role.

fairy
Fairies not required, plain water is an adequate lubricant and doesn't leave slippery or corrosive residue. If you use enough of it fast enough, you don't need any wetting agents or humectants, making EasyFit a benefit only if you have to do your tyre fitting in a room where you're not allowed to splash water around.

Retapw with 21mm tape. 25mm is too wide for his rim. First inflate with soapy present (dilute) and see if the tyre seat and does not unseat when you remove the valve core. Then inject sealant then reinflate.

For the benefit of any other curious early adopters, this is a Kojak on a Brompton Velocity A23, holding 100 psi. Am yet to test ride it, but if the next update comes from hospital you can come to your own conclusions.
Edit: Was flat next day (see comment further down).

Couple of questions:
Looking to get some tubeless vales for my 50mm CN carbon wheels - will 60mm valves work, can't find 70-80mm in stock anywhere that aren't a fortune.
anyone make a DIY tubeless inflator? like the one above?

Pacenti rims are tight with most tyres. Soapy water is your friend here. I think they are mountable.

I sell 80mm valves for Ā£9 a pair. Your Google foo needs improving.

Thanks, will check if those Borg ones will work on my rims.. maybe your SEO needs improving :-)..

I made a DIY one with two old valves, a 1.5l coke bottle and some duct tape. It worked, but the bottle could only take about 70psi before it started leaking / I started browning my pants, so it struggled with really stubborn tires. I now have the topeak version with is much better and goes 160psi+ no problem.

so hows this holding up

I made one out of a garden sprayer from Wilko. The over-pressure valve gives out at about 30psi so I bunged it with blu-tack. The rubber tube that comes with orange seal fits perfectly into the sprayer hose so it was super easy to connect to the valve. It's also been pretty useful for washing my bike too.

The selfmade inflator with a plastic bottle bodge is perfect to produce an ear shattering bang without explosives.
If you're more careful than me, it might work nicely. I will probably need a hearing aid one year earlier because of that incident.
Also if tires are stubborn you might need a lot of air anyway, so a compressor is always the best way. -

Not well. Was flat the next day. I think it's probably more to my taping qualities, though it did seem to hold well at the time. To be honest, it was only the sealant that was making it anywhere near airtight. Without that, there was too much seepage around the rim. I think my taping was a bit shite in places, which might have resulted in a bad fit on parts of the rim. I need to have a post-mortem, but I was quite gutted next day to find it flat. Hopefully I don't have to resort to a tube.

and these are folding kojaks?
-
• #2923
Yep, I hoped they'd be a good fit. Not so sure now. Even if it holds, it looks like I'll get about 100 miles before the first puncture. Might try a Marathon Plus instead.

I tried this (without sealant) quite a bit while I worked for Brompton and was never successful. Many tyres, only stock rims though, might be possible with the velocitys

I went for the A23s as they're sold as being tubeless ready, although I think that's more applicable for the 700c market, though I'm hoping the rim design is still the same. One day in the future maybe Schwalbe will come out with a tubeless ready Marathon Plus, but for now it would be nice to see if I can get away with a semi-ghetto workaround.
But yeah, without sealant it's a no-go and even then, there just isn't the familiar 'pop' when the tyre inflates, even with a compressor. I'm really hoping the autopsy points towards bad taping on my part.
(edited for poor grammar)
For me, pro ones were the easiest tires to set up. It may be that the tape is too wide and it's way up over the wall?
I'd try to put a tube and leave it there overnight to stretch the bead, sometimes the folds they have out of the box doesn't help.
If that doesn't work try slimmer tape? I used 20mm tesa in my 17mm inner China carbons, pro ones too, went up without sealant and with a normal pump
