Dainite soles are great in the sticks, pick up less mud etc than other footwear with commando soles. But was in London’s famous London yesterday and this morning. Hotel lobby with marbled floor after the rain was fucking treacherous. Had one of those slip but stay upright moments, thought to myself better be careful and two steps later almost slipped up again.

If anyone is interested I also have a box load of genuinely antique wooden shoe lasts. These were used by the old Italian shoemaker that my machines came from in Italy.
All are unvarnished and pretty much as-found condition. With a light sanding or just a layer of varnish they’ll look good.
Lots of different shapes and sizes, but this was the first set off the top of the box.
£10 per pair plus post. They seem to go for silly money on ebay.

Those are beautiful...

I hate dainite soles for that very reason. They also wear out fast. Better to get rubber topies in leather soles. But I only wear commando these days.

i was thinking more like this
or this
apologies for the late reply, the ones I've found seem to be women's..

Wow those lasts are amazing. I’ll take a pair of uk 9 if you have them?
Do you make shoes? -

Where I live the earth has a lot of red clay which clags up commando soles. Dainite is great for home and country, but fucking lethal on wet shiny surfaces. Will just have to be more mindful of location specific footwear in future.

Really? That is surprising.
When I started working in Canary Wharf I almost killed myself on the marble/ slippy floors about the place. Now I just wear either of a couple pairs of Paraboots, or all black trainers (knitted nomads).
Pic because why not

Yea okay but you know these are shoemakers’ lasts rather than shoe trees? I’ll try pull out a pair that fit inside a size 9.
Plan was to make shoes, or at least some kind of slippers, but plans changed. I am trying to sell my shoe finisher too, it needs rewiring for the UK (brought back from a stint in Italy).
If I get around to it I may look at making grecian/travel slippers in the near future, once I sort out a bunch of other stuff on the list.

Around two dozen, maybe, more or less. It’s two and a half fruit crates of them, in varying styles and sizes, ladies gents, round and square toed and I believe some child sizes too. I also have some other cobbler’s tools, probably I keep the lap anvil thing but the upright floorstanding (for hammering your heels/soles) I’d sell with the variety of metal lasts. It’s getting dusty.

No idea what this means!

Had a search through my photos from two years ago, here’s what they looked like hanging up at the shoemaker’s workshop, and afterwards loaded into the three small box loads. I can grab them all out later this week if you or anyone is interested in buying the lot.
Based in Swindon and pretty heavy to carry to London by bus, but totally possible for guaranteed £££.

Why don’t you shift them on eBay? You seem to have plenty of awesome projects that could do with some funding?

Some great deals on Chippewa here:

I scored the commando monkey boots. Resisting the urge for cowboy boots because wouldn’t wear them.

Tempting! Been wanting a proper pair of monkey boots for years

Me too. I emailed Chippewa couple of months back about these and they said they had stopped making them so pretty lucky to find them on sale.

Ah man stop talking. Just about managed to close the tab as funds are low. Might have to re-open it now.
How’s sizing? Similar to red wing?
-
• #6473
I went down half a size like I do with redwings. So ordered a uk 8.5 .
Lol if Mrs jv finds out about these I am finished. 😂 third pair of boots this month!
-
• #6474
mrs kboy just shrugged her shoulders when I showed them to her. "they look exactly like all your other boots". That means they'll go unnoticed, right?
So same size in chippewa as in red wing yeah?

That’s what I did. Glad to be an enabler 👍
A few pairs I keep threatening to sell.
If the price isn’t a massive bargain you can haggle a little, but I’d be surprised if you found them in this condition cheaper.
