• Anyone on here replaced an iphone battery?

Think my SE could do with a new one, youtube vids make it look easy enough but would rather hear from someone real.

Tons of batteries on ebay, how do you tell what's worth getting and what isn't?

  • I’d buy second hand genuine ones from ebay. Make sure they’re in the 90+% health.

It can be tricky to replace because to get it off you have to pull the tape that’s underneath the battery, and there’s a strip at the bottom of the battery where the charging port is. To pull that strip out it might accidentally break then you won’t be able to reach it anymore to catch it and keep pulling.

I’ve done a few replacements for batteries on SE, sometimes the strip comes off easy, sometimes I end up taking off the charging port or the motherboard or both and shove a hard plastic card (like a bank card) underneath the battery to get it off and both are not easy but not hard either you just have to be careful not to damage any cables or pierce the battery etc, but I’ve managed them all in the end.

Otherwise Apple does them for £45. Overheard a customer getting his battery replaced today.

If that's all it costs I might just get them to do it, I knew there were batteries on ebay for around a tenner, thought I'd be willing to pay like £20 or £30 for a decent quality one, £45 isn't that much more than that.
