Has the money for cycling sponsorship always been quite so hideous?

I thought this page was pleasingly honest.
Presumably all those trips around Europe to gather feedback were too much effort so they decided not to bother. Who cares what the pros think about their kit anyway.

So this press launch ... choice quotes
“I wouldn’t want to get involved in fracking if it was dangerous,” Ratcliffe said. “All you do is pump water down. I think it’s a real shame that the north of England is being deprived of cheaper energy, and it’s outrageous that the government listens to a small noisy minority instead of looking at the science.”
“Sky promoted awareness on plastics,” he said. “We’re not giving up our single-use plastic ambition at all. Whereas Sky raised the awareness, Jim and the team are the guys that can do something about it. If anything, it’s a step in the right direction.”
[...]
None of this disquiet, however, appears to have impacted on either Ratcliffe or Brailsford. Plastics, Ratcliffe argued, “are essential to modern life. We don’t chuck it in the sea. We do what we can but we can’t solve the problem.”
Unbelievably stupid spin, Brailsford's in particular.

Also, this:
But Ratcliffe’s weary dismissiveness of climate change activists failed to impress Lord Scriven, the former leader of Sheffield City Council and a vociferous and longstanding opponent of fracking. “It’s a greenwash,: he told the Guardian. “A company that is damaging the environment is trying to associate itself with a healthy clean sport. It just doesn’t wash and the people of Yorkshire have the right to peaceful protest.”

I leave Mallorca tomorrow. Wouldn’t be surprised to see someone in that jersey before I go, such is the apparent level of Sky fandom here.

That’s sport now unfortunately. I think you have to accept that it’s funded by some grubby sources.
What he means is i get 3.9million reasons not to think
I've been considering this reacently, how many Pro riders would stick by their morals/values when it comes to employment and where the money comes from. For example after the failure of Aquablue and so many riders out of a job would any of them have turned down a place at Bharain Merida because of the state's Human rights record?
With most of the teams sponsored by companies or states that have a questionable records do all riders loose their ability to have personal values and morals
