I had the pleasure of getting hammered in both the Wenkers and Hovels brewery tap rooms in Dortmund over the weekend. Highly recommended for a beer pilgrimage, especially given the quality of the food on offer.
The only downside is that I have no chance of remembering exactly what I drank given the quantity of it that was imbibed. Might have to go back and take notes.

How did you enjoy it? I live where the "original" recipe is from, it's one of my favorite beers. If you're in the neighbourhood, check out the Vicaris brewery.

I loved it. I was drinking a couple of Duvels after and I preferred the sweetness of the Karmeliet, as did my wife. It is also quite reasonably priced. Think the bottle was £2.80 in my local bottle shop (Clapton Craft), whereas some can by £6-£10!

Nice. I also like Duvel, but not the tripel hop.
Holy fuck, that's expensive. Karmeliet goes for 7 or 8 euros for six bottles here.

Slightly long post but wanted to share. If you're from Sheffield, this won't be news to you, but if not, it may be! I heard about a new brewery/ tap room opening up and I went to check it out recently. It's called 'The Brewery of Saint Mars of the Desert' (quite a long name I know) and I've genuinely had some of the best UK brewed beer I've ever had from them. Particularly 'Jack D'Or' which is a Belgian-inspired saison. It's run by a couple, Dan & Martha, who have lived and brewed in the US for the last 20 years.
Was chatting to them over the weekend and found out that Brewdog have bought 'all of their beer' this week and next week, to have on in all of their UK bars in the near future. Asides from this, their beer doesn't really leave Sheffield I don't think, yet. I wouldn't normally go to a brewdog but worth checking out if they have a takeover at your local brewdog. Some pictures from the Sheffield takeover ...

I know Dann and Martha from a place called the 'Cornshed', they used to be Pretty Things when brewing in the US. If you go back say 'hi' from Mike the Cornshed Sparkie!
Saying that I'm in Leeds and Sheffield isn't far...

Used to drink their Pretty Things stuff. I'm going to Sheffield later in the year for Abbeydale's Funkfest. Looking forward to trying their new stuff.
