Amazing though right? You can build a relatively reliable, 12-1400hp turbo or pro-charged LS7 for 25k or so. Bonkers.

Yes, in terms of $ per horsepower they're bonkers cheap.
We're thinking of the kit-car market - for e.g. Ultima, which commonly use a variety of engines including the LSx platform, but might prefer something a bit more race-car than a push-rod V8.

Cool!
I'd love one of these in something small and lightweight - 12000RPM V8 goodness....no idea how much they cost!

• #47555
I think the V8 is around £60k plus VAT

Test day at brands. The Morgan was about 5 secs quicker per lap without the screen/roof and Yokos than it was with the fitted an Dunlop historics.
Hilarious seeing mgbs, Morgans and tvrs get passed by 488 racers. They sound like fucking jets. Amazing

An Americans idea of a sports car.
About as sophisticated as a tractor. -

And while we're on American cars I saw these 3 ultimate cruisers today in Kings X.
A 1961 Cadillac Series 60
A 1959 Chevy Impala
A my favourite, and the coolest name. I've never seen one of these before, gangsta as fuck.
A 1959 Buick Electra 225

As Douglas Adams said in Hitchhikers Guide " Looks like a fish , moves like a fish , steers like a cow"
American cars. -

Horseshit comment on a car that's 50 years old occupies a very different spot in automotive history than speed.

And no, I am not a fan of them.

Maybe not as pretty as the Harley Earl 'Vette but clearly they can go round corners...

I can see that.
Horseshit comment not automatically wrong tho.
And I do actually like some American cars. -

A corvette just battered a 911 at Road Atlanta...

Which of the two is the most successful sports car, in terms of wins? I’ve heard people claim both of them- not sure which one it actually is.
I also wonder which race car is closest to the version that a punter could buy from a standard showroom.

Speaking of high performance, thoroughbred racing cars, I have completed a few of the ‘tinsel’ jobs. Way more fun than fitting a roll cage.

MG looks great Richie.
Revs, peak power, redlines and rev limiters:
We need to order valve springs, which will be specific to our requirements.
Therefore we need to establish what those requirements are.
We need the valve springs to have enough force to cope with revs up to, and beyond peak power - but how far beyond?
We need to pull through peak power rpm as it would be crazy to hit the limiter just as you make peak power, and also it will help to drop us back into the power band when changing gear.
So for e.g. if we make peak power at 7,800, should we have redline from 8,200 onward, then soft rev-limit at 8,400 and hard rev cut (fuel/spark) at 8,800?
What's reasonable?
The issue here being that the higher the force of the spring the more impact it'll have on the engine during the normal/expected operating rev-range, so by dropping the distance we go past peak power we make everything better below that point.

I would absolutely love an MGA. Something a bit period correct café racer would be amazing!
Thanks for the insight. I’ll give it some thought.
