I’ll confess that I’ve never heard of Sanders, they look great. Have you had them before? Can that crepe sole be replaced?

I really rate that jarring sock colour combo. Big up.

I’ll pretend it was an accident then...

CORRECTED - Hutton’s are the playboy chukka Steve McQueen wore, sanders are similar - not had a pair of this model before, half a size up FYI - no, the crepe can’t be resoled but sanders will ‘re-fox’ them (sole edge band) - I was reluctant to spend money on shoes that can’t be resoled but saw the price of trainers and thought fuck it...
Some independent cobblers would give resoling a good go, guy in southwark would be my first choice (I’ll find his name/shop in a bit) -

The fact I hadn’t chosen/preempted the jarr first thing this the morning was what threw me off... will combine again etc... 👍🏻👍🏻

Sanders are great. One of the many Northampton shoe manufacturers. Better than Loake, not as good as Tricker’s.

I went down a proper google rabbit hole after you posted the picture, I think it was Huttons that McQueen originally wore (Bullitt) but they went bust, Sanders and a few others reproduce something similar including a Swedish brand who bought the copyright to the ‘Playboy Chukka’. Anyway, nice shoes, very jealous - please let me know how they hold together...

In other news I’ve been neglecting all my leather shoes. Never touched my Redwings and my secondhand Thorogoods need some nourishment before they potentially split on the crease. Can someone point me to the LFGSS approved products please?

Ha! I went down the same hole and was coming back here to correct myself! Hutton’s were the originals, Sanders do a version more similar to the playboy - with a stepped heal and stitching at the rear and a stitched seam across the top of the sole but they don’t do a low version and I’ve got enough chukkas...
I can’t find a decent wear review online so I will let you know how I get on! 👍🏻👍🏻

My preferred treatment to nourish the leather is Sedgwicks leather care
It isn't very waterproof, and doesn't come to much of a shine.
So once the leather has absorbed it, buff it off and apply a cherry blossom polish for shine and some waterproofing, or Grangers g Wax if your shoes get wet a lot -

GH Bass do a passable and cheaper version, currently half price depending on colour and size

This is what I hoped the meermin I ordered would be like...

What happened, not up to expectations?

Nothing wrong with Bass. Weejuns for the win. Wish I’d never given a near-new pair away.
-
• #6392
Edit: I guess not
I think, they look identical to the stock pic -
• #6393
I have several pairs of Weejun loafers - including a rare pair of Venetians - but never with the beef roll. The difference in quality between the old "made in USA" with the heel plug and the modern ones is huge, and a real shame.

Sadly not...

Rather excited, I'm in discussion with Libs at William Lennon regarding the purchase of a pair of their rather beautiful 78 Tug of War boots, but with a beefed up vibram commando type sole.
Will report back when ordered, then the wait begins 10-12 week lead time, hopefully it may be quicker, but hey ho, the wait will be well worth it. -
• #6396
They sound good . Interested in hearing price and details if you go ahead. Are you planning on a vibram lug commando sole?
-
• #6397
Yep, that's the sole I've asked for, waiting for Libs to get back to me with a price.
Will let you know the details when I get em. -

We called them Etons when I was a kid, I had a few pairs, loved them... George Cox still make them...

I have a pair of their cycling shoes I seldom wear, and the external toecap boots. Both are excellent, if a little traditional.
-

Don't mind traditional at all, just after a pair of no nonsense everyday boots.
Slightly disconcerting sock / bidon matching
