  • Fairly obtuse but..

The thin plastic tubing that carbon frames use as internal cable guides - any ideas what it is and/or where to source something similar?

Just stripped down my carbon roadie and it’s full of gunk, sadly the rear derailleur cable was seized in its plastic tube so the whole lot has to come out. I should be able to insert a new one without too much bother if I can find something appropriate.

Also, what do we think, just cover the cable to remove as much friction as possible or try to epoxy it inside the frame? It’s only a cheap ribble so I’m not too precious about doing daft things like this as long as it means I can ride it!

  • I'd guess at some form of polyethylene, as it's self-lubricating under pressure. Same stuff they use to make gas pipes and milk bottles.
