Didn’t have the legs for it on the day. The rain and cold was the final straw for me, called it a day at 150k and got the train from near Tunbridge Wells.
@mk1mark was a gent and escorted me back to London even though he could have gone on quite easily.
The badges never turned up, lost in the post I suppose. Rather fitting really, don’t think I’ll chase them up... -

Sorry I couldn’t make the start.
It’s a tough intro to pick! Going to try another? -

A flat(er) one yeah. To be expected really when I haven’t ridden my bike further than my 10km commute since last summer

The best Kent audax is Man of Kent 200 calendar route.
Flat audaxes are boring, I learnt it the hard way.
-
• #9156
You haven't done any good audaxes, fact
-
• #9157
also true
-
• #9158
LEL is a good audax. you could start there?

The highlight would appear to be Clément not only hiding, but also eating and holding food and drink in Holders Lane.
Some people can do it all. :)

it is. I couldn't think of a ride much worse than the shark in driving rain.

So I wondered why the roads seemed so busy yesterday, I did a much shorter ride out the same way in the afternoon!
I saw quite a few out on hogtrough, wonder whether that was anyone on here

Also, @inappropriate_bike , were you the guy in the Hunt jersey? You tried to talk to me at one point but I was in a lot of pain so probably came across a bit rude, sorry about that. I was the miserable one on the orange Bokeh.
Yes, that was me. No worries you weren't rude at all.

I take it pic. 2 is a submission for the upcoming zine, "Places Clement is hiding"?

I thought we had an understanding.
But yeah go on then.
Racey bikes yeah? -

cricket club control is 👌

The Bristol audaxes were great. I had lots of cake. Weather was good for both. I have tan lines back.
-
• #9168
Yeah that was the intention!

Just signed up for The Woodman's Daughter on Saturday. Only 50km but I'm fat, unfit and havent ridden my bike further than the off licence for about 6 months.

Anyone thinking of doing the Brevet Cymru? 400k across Wales, looks like a fun route: http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/19-249/
Would be my first 400, seems a bit more interesting than just riding longer and longer rides around Kent.

hmm I'd personally vote for Oasts and Coasts as you get to see all of Kent, plus there's a control in an ice cream shop and I stopped for half a dozen oysters last year before riding the last 100k.
Cruelly stripped of its AAA points this year for some reason.

got the amesbury amble tomorrow. dreading it :/
-
• #9173
Looks like the first control is that massive garden centre in Lasham that was on Gentley Bentley, that place was a godsend.

That it's not hilly enough...

Will have to remember that as I'm hauling myself over the Ashdown to Battle...
I’m not sure putting Hogtrough and Toys Hill at the end of a 200km hilly ride is entirely fair. Still, great ride, fantastic atmosphere and probably the best control I’ve experienced on an Audax.
