  • Lens design for SLR wideangles is difficult and compromised by the large gap between the rear element and film plane. That’s why a 28mm SLR lens will tend to be much bigger (and often more complex) than a 28mm rangefinder lens of the same era.

    Don't know a single photographer who cares about this though to be honest.

    It was quite common to use rangefinders for street/reportage but move to an SLR for portraits/still-life/studio stuff and sports.

    Going way back it was common (in the UK) for press photographers to use a Rolleiflex with fast film and a flash and sometimes a Leica alongside for ‘chromes’.
