  • Lens design for SLR wideangles is difficult and compromised by the large gap between the rear element and film plane. That’s why a 28mm SLR lens will tend to be much bigger (and often more complex) than a 28mm rangefinder lens of the same era.

    A longer lens doesn’t have these issues because physics.

    You know about the relative merits of the different camera body types already.

  • That's interesting. Was wondering why the 28mm Nikon lens I got was so much bigger than my 50mm.
