  • I'm planning to pop along. Hoping to be able to make it for the food as well.

  • You could "proceed", or you could "mooch along" ... your choice, but I know I'd go for the "mooching". Seriously though, I'd be there if I were in town.

  • Will be good to see you, Rich!

  • Well, Rich is planning to pop along. Other people might hop along (Cassidy), sidle along, or stumble along. The possibilities are endless/and for me to miss one/would seem to be groundless.

  • I'd be tempted but grabbing ales and pizza more central tomo...

  • Aw. Would be lovely to attend this reunion though work commitments make this impossible tonight.
Keen though to east on another occasion, with a little more notice.
    Thanks Oliver

  • It's tomorrow, David. :)

  • Good point.
Well if I get back to London in good time tomorrow I'll come along.

  • Glad we cleared that up. :) Hope it works out!

  • Everyone else, penultimate reminder: Eats and Easts tomorrow. 6pm at Cook Daily in London Fields for food, Chesham Arms afterwards (maybe from 7:30 or 8 or so). It's just a hop, skip, and jump from one to the other, so you don't even need to be on a bike.

    See you there!

  • I'm still a 'maybe',
but best route from Marble Arch to Cook Daily?

  • Depends on what you mean by 'best'--I wouldn't go to Marble Arch but do Sussex Gardens, Old Marylebone Road, and the A501, although I aim for further north. I'm sure I don't need to tell you what Oxford Street is like around 5:30. :) After that, it's the Hipster Spice Route, turning off Hackney Road at Goldsmith's Row and then right at the top of Broadway Market into Westgate Street.

You can obviously go parallel to either the A40 or the A501 and do the A5204 to Tottenham Court Road, but the best option after that is still to get back on the A40/A401 via Gower Street (southbound), then the A5201/A501 Old Street/A1208.

(Using all the numbers because I'm too lazy to type out all the changing street names.)

  • Thanks,
read 'Marble Arch' as shorthand for as far east as I want to go on that Main Road.

  • If you want to only go along smaller streets from there, it gets more complicated to explain. :) I'd just do the A5204 at least to Tottenham Court Road, it's much easier, but if you don't want to, this is the best of the rest, I think:

Leave Edgware Road via Upper Berkeley Street, obviously stopping off at Green Valley for delicious provisions, and do this taxi rat-run via Portman Square and Manchester Square. That gets you to Welbeck Street, where the short contraflow to Queen Anne Street from Bentinck Street that I believe Westminster Cycling Campaign have been seeking for ages still hasn't been implemented, so you'll have to walk (it's only a short distance). At the end of the two-way section of Queen Anne Street, turn left into Mansfield Street, then right into Duchess Street, cross Portland Place, right into Hallam Street/Langham Street/Foley Street, then you'll have to walk a short stretch along Cleveland Street to Tottenham Street, right into Whitfield Street, left into the A5204 Goodge Street, then across Tottenham Court Road, right into Chenies Street, left into Ridgemount Gardens, right into Torrington Place, Byng Place, Gordon Square, Tavistock Place, etc. Across Gray's Inn Road into Ampton Street, right into Cubitt Street, right into the A201 King's Cross Road, and then left into either Lloyd Baker Street (if you like your hills a little steeper) or Margery Street (gentler). Across Amwell Street into River Street/Myddelton Square Gardens, Chadwell Street, then the little shimmy across St John Street into Owen Street. Across City Road and Goswell Road into Colebrooke Row, turn right at either Vincent Road, Noel Road, or Gerrard Road, then Danbury Road, Rheidol Terrace, Prebend Street, left along the footpath across the green by St James Church, Bishop Street, left into Basire Street, right into Popham Road, across New North Road into Ecclesbourne Road, right into Elmore Street at the end, left into Cleveland Road, right into Northchurch Road, across Southgate Road, and then Northchurch Terrace, De Beauvoir Square, St Peter's Way, and then Middleton Road all the way to London Fields. Got that? :)

(I honestly wouldn't bother if you don't know the area.)

  • I’ll be out tomorrow night, come join me at Happy Valley racecourse.

  • Well, I've certainly never heard Walthamstow Dog Track called that.

  • Tonight at 6 at Cook Daily for any last-minuters, later at the Chesham.

    See you tonight!

  • On my way!

  • 15 mins away

  • Haven't been to London Fields since 2002!
    Thumbs up for Cook Daily,
    and the Chesham Arms.
Sorry I had to leave early, but I guesstimated 2 hours to get home,
and the activity tracker confirmed about 1hr 43 moving and 17 minutes waiting at traffic lights.
    Would Easts again.

  • Lovely evening. To all who may have been glued to their screens since late last night, mespilus made it eventually and was only 15 minutes late, which, quite frankly, if you're coming from one of the world's logical poles is forgivable. How very lovely to meet kl and see ric_a5 again. We all liked Cook Daily very much and (I think I can speak for everyone) would like to go there again.

  • Good to see you agan @ric_a5.
    Good to meet you @kl
    and,
thank you for indulging me in my Spiling exit.

  • Great to meet you guys - first ever compass beers done!

    Love a good spile.

  • Thank you for pointing out the obvious, 'spile/mespilus',
    so obvious indeed,
that it has never previously occurred to me!
