Standard response from an employer of someone on their phone whilst sat at lights. As they went green and the vehicles around them started to move they pulled away without even looking up. wtf is wrong with people.

Roadsafe seem pretty good for sending notice of intended prosecutions to drivers for this. I assume it ends up with the 6 points and £200 minimum given that they’re on video.

I’d think that’s more effective that somebody at work telling them not to get caught doing it again.

Sadly my camera didn't capture the offence.
The most I'm hoping for is enough of a scare to make them not do it again.
I don't really expect any direct action from either the police or the employee.

Called in to PSNI to report a very close pass. Nice officer he couldn't find the car on the reg i recalled (no camera) but he'll search on.

They told me they want to introduce an online reporting system here.

I feel that when they introduce on line reporting, they will be inundated with reports. I had two close calls in the space of 10 mins this week - both head on episodes whilst in my car. Drivers here seem to have forgotten to give way to oncoming traffic when their lane is obstructed. Both times I had to do emergency stops and the other drivers drive on - oblivious to my car.

So yes PSNI will be busy! But so far their officers and the ones of the harbour police have been very helpful. So do come in to report if you have a number plate.

When they get an upload facility, I’ll be buying a dash cam. Reporting without good evidence is not ideal.
On the dash cam front, I have noticed that a lot of crap drivers seem to have them! Seems odd to me.

Has anyone reported driver dickery to Royal Mail before? Is it worth the effort?

I was approaching a red light this evening when the driver of a HGV Royal Mail lorry did a close pass and then slammed on their brakes for the red.

The driver knew exactly what he was doing and just kept saying ‘your lot don’t own the road you know’.

I will report it to roadsafe, although I’m a bit worried as after having words with him I rolled myself over the stop line to make sure I was well out of his way once the lights went green again. Will it be ok if I explain this was for my safety?

You're at the mercy of the reviewing officer in question. Rolling over a stop line on anything other than green is an offence (assuming there was sufficient time to stop since the lights changed), there's no get out clause for "safety". You can still get a ticket for it if you do it to get out of the way for an emergency vehicle with blue lights flashing. The only time you can get away with it, I believe, is when directly instructed to do so by a police officer.

(The argument is that it wasn't the only thing you could have done for your safety, and many of the other options don't involve traffic offences.)

There may be no express law permitting such a move, but do we know if anyone has been 'done' for allowing an ambulance through and rolling over a stop line in the process.

My brother got an FPN for moving into a bus lane to let an ambulance past. They refused his appeal despite clear video evidence that he moved in solely to let it past and moved straight back out after it was gone. (In a car not on a bike.)

Usually emergency service vehicles stop the siren when everyone’s held up at a red light but once on Hyde Park Corner at a red light, an ambulance came up behind and was going mental with all the variety of sirens ie move the fuck out the way. Everyone sat there.
I motioned for a private hire car to move out it’s way and he rolled through the red. Afterwards a black cabbie came flying up beside me leaning on his horn, told me not to tell people to do that because they can still get a ticket.
I said “somebody could be dying you selfish prick” and rode off.

There is a defence, i.e. if you acted to prevent an accident, especially if it was to you. If you had no reasonable alternative, feared for your safety, then any action you take entirely justified. Moving out of the way of an emergency vehicle is a different scenario altogether.
