If we leave with Mays deal then it'll mean a customs union under the backstop/to replace the backstop, so the independent trade policy is bunkum.
Leave with no-deal and the backstop will be a requirement for any trade deal with the EU, which has to be the priority over any other deal as it represents the majority of our trade.
Basically, a trade deal with the US is only ever going to happen if the nutters are 100% in charge, and there aren't enough of them.
