  • Picked these up today not leather but still 😍

  • they're banging. I picked up a pair of tricker's loafers in a charity shop for £1 last weekend and have been enjoying them this week.

turns out those shoes I thought were bespoke are - made by Amrik Chaggar. In fact they're these https://www.instagram.com/p/-EoJ0nAljj/ so that's nice.

Seriously tempted by these atm, but would much rather they were in black

  • Sure size 12.
Shame not size 11, would love the monks.

  • Thanks - although now I notice it’s a bit of a crap photo! I was supposed to save these for the wedding but I’m not sure I have the patience!

Is that a crepe soul? Issue I find with those is once they wear it’s like walking on a bar of soap!

  • Totally agree, used to love Clark’s desert boots until it because dangerous to walk on wet pavements in them...

In other news, ordered the meermin, sized up half and fit was good - I sent them back though as they were cheap looking, the leather looked naff and very shiny grain, didn’t look as good as the press shots... also as the welted part of the sole transitioned into the heal part there was spots of undyed leather.. they just seemed a bit crude, but like Barker... I’m sticking to Loake for affordable decent made shoes, suede and oxblood 771 on order

  • Yea I was a bit miffed they weren’t sized for smaller hands, I’m only 9-9.5.

  • they just seemed a bit crude, but like Barker...

I've not had a bad pair of shoes from Barker so far, and I've bought a few.

  • They're a bit close to granny shoes for me, much prefer the lace ups... #whenyouseeit

  • Hmmm that’s a shame - I have 3 pairs of Meermin and have been really impressed with them each time with a price/quality.

I ordered some of their unlined loafers for summer which should be with me in a couple of weeks.

That said the feel/quality of these unlined Alden’s is something else!

  • Picked these up for something more relaxed than loafers as the weather gets nice. Other than Castañer is there any other decent makers of traditional canvas espadrilles - don’t fancy taking these near the sea

  • I think you're lost >>>

    ;)

  • Old, old Wolverines bought in a Wood Green Charity shop 4 years ago for £8 and just re-soled by AG Meek in Gloucester for £40. I walk, ride, garden and drink beer wearing these beauties and still they scrub up and polish to this. Dean at AG Meek gives the sole edge a quick buff up if I drop by.

  • espadrilles

    Jesus Christ!

Espadrilles come from Super-U and if you're paying more than €8 you need to have a word with yourself.

Look forward to the discussion on who makes the best artisan disposable hotel slippers.

@MetalMelly - good to see how a decent pair of leather shoes can be kept in service. Maybe time to get some fresh laces to match the new soles.

  • Yeap.

I have a bridge for sale. PM me x

  • But seriously, what am I missing? They are low quality canvas holiday shoes.

They can't last due to their design and construction and will look scruffy in next to no time. The idea of high quality ones is pretty much an oxymoron and are the antithesis of this thread.

  • Last call for these C&J's before they hit eBay? 9.5

  • yeah but the anderson and sheppard ones doe...

Mango do some cheaper ones that'll probably go in the sale if you want a budget option

  • Picked up some lovely Grenson brogues in the charity shop today.... leather was very dry, but 2 hours with the kiwi natural, and a soft brush sorted them out. I didn’t want them looking like new, so no attempt to remove any blemishes....

  • Nice!

With Hugeoh on the Espadrille chat. Madness

  • He just wants a higher quality espadrille, nothing wrong with that. Decent looking, comfortable and functional holiday shoes are a conundrum.

  • Lord. I buy a new pair of Tom's every year and pretty much live in them from June to September.
