Yep. As it uses regular display port protocol. I should prob build another hack and use it. Saying that my 5k worked with my hack in windows.

• #13906
No worries if you do it anytime soon let me know. May give me the confidence to do mine if needed.

Mine are still working but I’m expecting them to collapse at any moment

I actually own this. Same colour, a ‘referb’, everything.
It’s somewhat underwhelming for the price. But I’ve no issues.

Having been out of the mac/macbook game for a long long long time now I find myself looking for a laptop that I can use for photography/ the odd bit of video editing.
Another prerequisite is that I'd like it light so I can travel and not really think too much about it. But last time the air wasn't really up to the heavy lifting.
Am I looking in the right place? I think last time I looked dell XPS were also top of the list too.

TBH most laptops are capable these days, I'm guessing you are looking at 13inch for portability? Swerve the Air obvs, but the Pro's are great.
Dell XPS prob much the same.
Comes down to budget, preferred OS and subjective views on physical build IMO. -

ugh, should I save my money and get the base version with no touch bar, 8gb and 128gb?
I just use Sketch on it, its not processor heavy and I am currently managing old macbook air (i'll post the spec).

I just got one....1TB SSD and the Touch Bar... I like the bar more than I thought I would...but otherwise, a bit underwhelmed.
It's kinda cool you can charge it from a monitor tho I guess.

I would say yes. Maybe.
For me these SSD drives are great for fast access for application files (and virtual ram I guess) but nowhere near big enough for all my project files (.ill .indd and .psd and resource files) ... so I use external drives and cloud things anyway. This won’t be the case for everyone.
Just re-checked my spec and I have everything the same but 3.1 GHz i5 and only 8 GB ram.
Old school mantra for design is running Adobe software is pack your mac full of ram on purchase and all’s good. Not sure really if this still applies. I’ve not played in an i7.
I usually try and buy something that’ll work for 8 years. Usually mid range but MacBooks are kinda new to me. I always got pretty good value out of iMacs.

I use the Touch Bar but it’s nothing really .... imho.

16gb ram or gtfo. I get system crashes with less. Storage wise get iCloud, yeah really, iCloud, it’s smart storage management is mint.

This is what I have right now (screenshot). The only reason for an upgrade is the display. Need retina; newer display.
This is its geekbench score: https://browser.geekbench.com/macs/376
If I compare this refurb'd 2018 one to a 2016 one for same price there is a big gap in geekbench score. But I get more RAM and storage.
2018 v 2016 .. literally double
Given that touchbar is just a 'nice to have' but will drain battery more I might as well get the very base 2018 model at £1249. The equivalent price'd secondhand will get me more storage, touchbar but same ram but half the processor power.
Apologies for crowdsourcing my confusion and purchase.

Non touchbar uses last gen cpu. 2018 base touchbar has 4 core. You need 4 core.

Yep. Get that instead. Better processor and the onboard graphics apparently better too.

My other half's iPhone says it needs an update before she can phone or use data, but also says it's up to date. Anyone had this?
I think it's an iPhone 5s? -

More details plz etc Tim Apple, but in theory I like. I don't own an iPhone anymore though and can't see myself switching back any time soon. Come on Google - bring the same to a Pixel.
