I've been commuting on fixed gear bike with brakkless installed for at least last 10 years and it's the best bike for the city imo. And my knees are doing absolutely fine. -

'Fixie' and 'fixed gear' seem two different things. One a mode of transport, the other a trend/fad dying between the time Tokyo Fixed became Kinoko and people started building cross/gravel bikes.

80% of the people I knew who rode fixed were uni students, so they've all grown up and got jobs now where they live outside of the city and commute in via car, train etc.
