What about a matte XR31T? What's the difference between matte and sandblast?
-
• #8303
I'm pretty sure I can get these too.
So sandblast is that kind of grainy finish which can be seen on most high end rims, like Easton, pacenti and the like.
Matt Black doesn't have the grainy structure. Hunt is matt black, for lack of reference.
No actual photos at hand

What about compared to DT rims? Would sandblast or matte be a better fit?
Thinking of building a wheelset with XR31T for the front and DT RR521DB for the rear. -

To this end, we are offering all customers who purchased Pacenti SL23 and SL25 (V1 and V2) rims or wheelsets from 2013 to 2017 the chance to upgrade at a substantial discount:

The cheap dt swiss are matte.the expensive are sandblast.

The one u mentioned is blasted from what I can tell from the photos and the fact that it uses the phr washer

Already bought a Pacenti Forza at eBay for the bargain price of £50, which is probably more than I would have paid with the rim amnesty thing. Oh well, thanks everyone

Eternity is a factory making rims for some big names and small names.
£60 sounds a bit high for a OEM to me. Are the 'big names' selling them for £150 then? For aluminium rims that is
-
• #8310
£60 is quite good for the rim of its caliber. Kinlin sells for £45-60.
Hunt sells rebranded Kinlin and Alex for £90. Stock models. Hope sells Sun ringle Oem's for £90.
Say for example Hed belgium sells for £150. Eternity with same dimensions and taller braking surface sells for £60. Hed has a little bit nicer finish. And funky logos. Is all that worth £90 quid extra?
And yes, rims from Brands using eternity as a maker go for over a £100.
Also for reference, Pacenti is made by Alex rims and they sell for £90.

What (rim brake) hubs for club runs and commuting in all weathers? Budget ~£200 so been looking at DT Swiss 350/Hope/Novatec etc.
-
• #8312
Wow, didn't really know that considering DT Swiss is selling rims for £30 that are fairly good. The joints and finishing may be not as good or fancy but still £60 for an 'unbranded' rim seems quite pricey.

Depends which you consider most important - quality of the product or what the stickers on it say. Personally I don't give a monkey's about the latter and think the former is rather important, but if your priorities are the opposite then just buy the cheapest DT Swiss rim you can find.

Novatec and a big bucket of spare bearings from the change.

I got a new Pacenti SL25 built from JRA late last year to match one of their wheels I bought years ago. Depends if you're precious about the rim type or not. It was for the missus so wanted them to match.

Ultegra

Record
LOL. Not a good idea even if they had any in stock.
Ultegra 6800 is the right answer. -

Anyone running Miche hubs? @cycleclinic seems to rate them.
-
• #8320
I've had one on my bike for years. Never had any issues.
-
• #8321
Ah, you got that part wrong. The not as fancy joints and finishing are meant for the cheaper DT Swiss rims.
then just buy the cheapest DT Swiss rim you can find.
That's just what I did by the way. I was considering Archetypes or Belgiums even but couldn't justify triple the price of R460DBs over fancy logos. I also destickered them.

Ace, will give them a go.

Anyone got experience with this Ali Express Tension Meter?

I’ve bought a 24h DT Swiss rear track hub to build into a rim I’m gonna scavenge from an Aksium or something wheel.
I have a fairly well matching rim I could build a front wheel out of but it’s 36h. Would seem a weird combo to have more spokes on the front so I could just use every 2nd hole in the rim/hub (or get an 18h hub) but at 190+ lb would 18 spoke front be pushing it for road fixed do you think?

I’m gonna scavenge from an Aksium
Why not just pair it with the matching 20H Aksium front wheel? No building required, easy to convert to bolt-on if you're actually going to use it at the track or just want to look as though you might. #tester_approved for road fixed at >230lb
You can get Kinlin in matt or sandblast from me.
Eternity is a factory making rims for some big names and small names.
Likewise, you can them from me. 6069 alloy, welded joint, tubeless and satin sandblast finish. Great rims, easily out there with easton and the like. The rim I have in mind is 25 tall and 20 Internal
Kinlin is £50, eternity is £60.
