Back in the '70s my dad was getting a flight via Egypt and amongst the people waiting on the tarmac were a large group of women in full bukas all with matching large makeup cases.
An irate customs officer started shouting at them and then proceeded to open the cases to reveal every one of them contained pigions. Being exposed to the light the pigeon all woke up and started sqwarking.
Some one next to my slightly confused dad explained they were pigeon smuggling. Obviously this much he'd grasped. Why, was what confused him. Apparently they were used to race and Egypt had good pigeons.
