"sexyroller".

Looks to me like the original fork judging by the colour, rake and eyelets, unless he has had the bally-lot resprayed. It's all shits and giggles until the forks collapse under braking on a downhill.

Do you think Triton will let me swap my 700c fork for a 650b?
Unfitted and been sat in a shed, may as well stick it on the 'bay.

Geo is different to roller but i looked at these from Condor. Steel forks for discs and 1 1/8" are quite rare. Look into actual Surly options or carbon CX forks.
https://www.condorcycles.com/collections/forks/products/tange-prestige-steel-disc-fork
And the Surly roller fork.
https://surlybikes.com/parts/steamroller_forkI used a Dolan carbon winter fork on mine, no disc tabs, sharpened up steering dropped a load of weight, but max tyre was 28mm and avoid mud. Swapping back to stock can't say i noticed much, low speed handling was more stable maybe slower. Unless your activley riding muddy trails or offroading then stock set up is fine. Carbon CX or custom fork in steel which won't be cheap are what i came down too, or Straggler or Long Haul trucker have cropped up as choices with compromise. Or stay with rim brake.

What is frustrating is these are all complicated solutions to something that could be solved by Surly simply making a Steamroller fork with a disc tab! I really want to roll with a disc brake.

Now have the last several posts caught up with me.
2 of us have looked at the Tange from Condor, and lots of chatter about various Surly choices from other models. The subject has limited info on the net because it's so niche.
The modified roller picture states OG surly fork modified by SpecialEd and 160mm rotor.
Yes it can be done. But finding a frame builder that would actually do it is another question. And how long will it last is another question. -

@Jimmy_Fingers :) we bought the wrong bike.

I really want to roll with a disc brake.
High quality Thorn disc fork abet got a bigger rake which makes it much more twitcher.
-
• #2611
It's surely worth a punt? I just want to see it done. Would you ever go 650b on it?

Rollers came out circa 2000 with a 1" headtube and quill stem.
few years later both 1" and 1 1/8" and then 1" was phased out. that's about it for a frame in production for 19 years. Nothing else has really altered. design classic.
now perhaps if @coldharbour Talbot or Isen :) did a trial run of pre-sold Steamroller forks with disc tabs and mudguard eyes in plain gloss black or just raw finish, just copy the original style and spec but up to date, they might consider a low volume production run.....

Thorn give reasons in the page why skinny steel forks and discs are not great.
Worth reading.

I have sent a strongly-worded-yet-appreciative email to Surly about the matter.
-

Illuminating. From what is said the Surly with the welded disc tab is likely to bend the first time he brakes meaningfully.
-
• #2616
I'd quite fancy it 650b with even fatter tyres on it.

• #2617
It barely make them money.

• #2618
I'd love to see this

It depends on how thick the Steamroller fork blades are Jimmy.
The bike was made for hard use and long life not a superlight racer, so perhaps the original spec of tube used is up to the job even though it's not designed for discs.
Surly would have to say no to modifying for liability issues.Be curious what they say, and a mass produced after market fork from them to retrofit a long running model has sales potential.... :)

Seems like the mentioned steamroller is still in one piece
http://www.yksivaihde.net/site/foorumi/topic.php?id=23170&page=5#post-790926As is this https://flic.kr/p/21v6xGJ
And there's some others too, and similarly modified Pelago San Sebastians.

650b disc rims and kickback hub?
-
• #2623
This has a Straggler 650b fork on it
-
• #2624
Well if he's gone touring on it either he has been extremely lucky or the Steamroller fork does have enough strength in the fork blades for a rotor.
-
• #2625
If he has been lucky, he seems to have been very very lucky to have avoided the fork collapsing with a loaded bike over long distances. Interesting
