  • Thanks for that BN. I’ll stick with what I have for now.

Speaking of Swinley I think I’ll head back there again tomorrow if anyone fancies it.

  • Mud!

  • 240S not available in XD/Cl, so Sam is ordering the hubs in Shimano/CL and converting them with an XD driver.

  • XD/Cl

    The lightest configuration

    Old habits die hard

  • Howards bike weighs a lot less than mine does, when I've not yet put the front wheel back in my forks.

  • His full sus?

  • That's coz it's an XC race marathon bike with no rear suspension or dropper post!

But yeah it does have some super-light shiz on it like Magura brakes, XO cassette, carbon bars & seatpost and whatnot.

The problem is the lighter the bike gets the more terrifying it gets when it's off the ground...

  • It would take obscene amounts of money to get the Scalpel down to F-Si weight

  • Sounds like a worthy challenge

  • I believe in you

  • It would take obscene amounts of drillium

  • We doing the North Downs this weekend then? If so, where are we meeting, when are we meeting and what to bring?

  • Meet at dorking? We can do a loop to peaslake and back via leith hill

  • Train out of Waterloo easiest, or drive to Dorking?

  • There's no facilities to clean the bikes at Dorking that I'm immediately aware of. So bringing some cleaning kit might swing it for the car.

  • What is this cleaning that you speak of?

  • RE plans for Sunday -

I'm sort of in - slightly concerned the amount of of rain this week means an absolute mud bath. Ironically, given this ride was born out of tyre chat - those are the conditions my 27.5 plus bike with 3.0 tyres do not excel in....

However, I'm still kinda keen for a ride. Is everyone driving? If so, we could skip Ranmore by parking in Holmbury/Peaslake and concentrating a little more on the trails / linking up with the ride being discussed in the other thread....

To many decisions, buts its still Tuesday.

  • I got very, very wet and muddy on Sunday - somewhat less muddy would be nice for this coming weekend.

  • The north downs does drain fairly well in places like peaslake because it’s kinda sandy loamy stuff on hilly terrain

That said the thought of returning with a mucky FS bike and gear is a turn off.

  • You should get a Worx Hydroshot

  • You should @Howard, they are awesome.

  • I've got a Mobi - the problem is not having cleaning kit, it's having to do it outside in the cold and dark outside our block of flats.

  • I feel your pain

  • A Mobi is like a kids toy compared to the Hydroshot. Plus it takes up a lot less space.

  • Needs a hose. We don't have (reliable) access to an outside hose.
