  • Does anyone roll their own film here?

And has anyone shot Ilford Pan 400, it’s not generally available here but ive found a shop selling it in both 36 frame rolls and bulk rolls.

Hoping to get into developing and probably bulk rolling my own film this next few months, possibly printing if I can figure out a darkroom space (or find a community one in Manchester)

  • Yes, it's easy and cheap. I have used a few 30m rolls of HP5 and it works out around half the price of buying 36 shot rolls.

  • I looked into bulk loading a while back. You CAN save money, but not much, DX coded re-spoolable canisters are more pricey, and you can risk losing money if you fuck it up and accidentally exposing a whole roll/the bulk roll
Edit: mi7rennie knows more than me. If he says its worth it it probably is. Just not for me atm :)

  • I recently started. I put HP5 into any old used metal canisters (paying attention to DX code if using auto cameras). I leave about 20mm of the old film attached to the case spool and just tape on the fresh stuff.

Kentmere 400 in bulk roll is cheap and not bad at all.

I think there is something to be said for sticking with one film type when doing home dev. Bulk loading suites that.
