If the wheels are going to outlast the frame then go for it, but if not, then get rid of them now and make the change

Cross-post from the Road Wheel Recommendations thread:
Looking for some rims:
- To fit 26x2.3" tyres;
- Disc (no MSW);
- Aluminum;
- Black;
- Low profile/box section.
Nice to have:
- Tubeless ready;
- Lightweight;
- 32/36 hole options.
Any recommendations?

I just built a DT Swiss EX471, 25mm internal, seems great so far (I’m running 2.1 tyre). 32h only I think. Pretty easy to obtain.
For holes options in 26”, Americans are still making rims in lots of flavours ... Velocity are your friend.

Clincher rim braking rim choice for rear wheel?
Focus on durability I guess, it's just a turbo/training Powertap wheel. Will be replacing a DT Swiss R520 so maybe another DT Swiss rim?
Been using H Plus Son Archtype on my other wheels and they're doing fine.

Damn, can't beat that price, and at 400 grams quite lightweight.

Have you considered Kinlin XR31T?
-
• #8288
I've used them but only for my ultra bike's disc wheels. How do the rim brake versions compare to the 511 and Archetype? Do any manufacturers provide braking surface depth measurements? Surely the thicker the braking surface the longer they'll last (and the heavier they will be).

Kinlin are 24mm wide, which is a bit wider than Archetype and might cause clearance issues on the PX Stealth? I'd have to see how much spare room I have.

Rim width wise regarding a 2.3" tyre, could I get away with 23mm internal? Or should I go 26mm? For the rims I'm eyeing now it's a 75g difference per rim (325g vs 400g roughly).
My question basically is: what will be more noticeable, the lower weight of the wheels or the better handling(?) of the wider rims?
This is for a touring/gravel bike. No extreme cornering or whatever.

I'd ride it, especially if you're at road pressures; people out there are still MTBing on 20mm or less
Not sure about rim choice but for touring/gravel probably better to err on the side of strong/heavy rather than weenie/weak right? But that's not to say the 400g is definitely the stronger.
Has something happened to your glorious Muddy Fox or you just fancy a change?

Thinking MF2.0. Thanks for your comment.

DTSwiss RR511DB vs Kinlin XR31 RTS OCR?
-
• #8294
Kinlin, due to the assymmetric rim profile. And the lack of logos.

I think I have both those rims on my bike currently. They both seem to roll around.

Would building a set of clincher training wheels for the track with 19-20mm internally wide rims be a stupid idea?
I usually run near the max pressure (140psi) on 15mm internal clinchers; would the wider 19-20mm rims need to be run at a lower pressure; would that feel soft in the bankings or would the firmness be similar with the extra volume despite the lower pressure?

Anyone knows what I can use to replace a pacenti SL25? Ano black, ideally close to 25 external, 26 depth, 24 holes, tubeless friendly

Kinlin XR26T
Eternity 20/25
Pacenti Forza
All fit the bill

Kinlin was almost there... But glossy. Forza too, but 90 for an alloy rim is ridiculous.
What are eternity? Thanks for the suggestions -

DT Swiss R470
Looking at custom frames for the mid-distant future, and really considering not going for Thru Axles as I've already got 2x sets of QR disc wheels (700c, 650b - both dynamo) that I could carry onto a new build.
Am I being silly in considering not making the switch to thru axle?
