Ha, thanks @kirth - having actually seen some photos of them in the wild now, I'm not so keen. The dial in the Hodinkee photos looks very flat in colour. The real dial, not so much.

They have a bit of form with this sort of thing, I think. E.g. if you look at the pics of the SPB079 on the H shop, I can assure you the bezel is not that colour, not even close. It’s been photoshopped pretty hard to look lighter and flatter. It’s actually really obvious on the wrist shot. Surprised if they don’t get people complaining.

Seiko’s own product shots are always shit but in this case it’s way closer to the actual colour.

Ha, nice phrase. Yes, having seen one in the flesh I completely agree. Not even remotely close to their product photo. The blue alpinist dial looks great on the Hodinkee shop but the photo I saw on Instagram makes it looks pretty cheap and tacky.

Friday keyboard shot, bought this as a young man, about thirty years ago. I had read an article in a magazine which said that the cool things in life were New Order, GPz900’s and TAG watches and couldn’t afford a gpz.
Been sitting in a drawer for years but just had new battery and a bit of paint on the minute hand.

Have also ordered one of these. Ticks a lot of boxes; cheap, PVD, quartz, <40mm case, 20mm lugs. Would be better if the lugs were drilled, or if it had fixed bars even.
