PhilDAS learns to glue (mostly) metal

Not much of an update, it will be a couple of weeks now until I am home for the day and able to arrange for the gas to be delivered so I can’t make much progress but I have drawn out the geometry full size on some stuck together paper. I will annotate it with lengths and angles shortly

Well the tubes have arrived but they’re next door because I was at work and next door is a cafe so it’s closed.
Gas hopefully will come on Saturday and then I’ll get going on practise joints before starting the full thing in a couple weeks

So. I knew I was gonna have a problem with the rear dropouts. I had just guessed which ones I’d need when ordering, stupidly, as I hadn’t drawn the frame out yet. Once I had, I realised I was going to need dropouts suitable for 74 degrees between chain and seat stays but what is ordered is 62. I asked them to change it the other day but they’d already shipped.
I’ve plenty of time before I get to needing the dropouts so I could just order the right angle ones or I could change the plan and drop the seat stays down the seat tube but it does ruin the classic look I was going for.
I could modify the dropouts but I think the difference in angle is quite significant so I’m not sure it’s doable.

I think the dropped stays would look good, especially if they’d be parallel to the downtube. But it’s a matter of taste, clearly.

Well envious of this whole project by the way, hope to be doing something similar in a year or two.

Well the chainstays are uncut so the dropouts and seat stays will get a bit closer to the frame but not quite enough for triple triangle I think.
Anyhow, for my first frame I really wanted to make a classic looking, traditional but modern bike so I’d like to join them at the top if possible

Swap for that saddle yo?

What's the specified cs/ss angle? They're only guidelines. If you've got enough meat on the ends you can sculpt them in once it's built.

Classic geo is much better than anything. I like the fast backs on your drawing.
And I like the dropouts. They are great.

You'll be fine I reckon. No harm in cutting the slots and trying it out dry assembly

I’d also vote to keep your plan of stays to the top, mock with the current dropouts and worse case order some more saving the currents for another project!

If you fancy learning how to make a 56cm lugged track frame I'd buy you some tubes.

Maybe even a pack of hobnobs too.
