• My road bike is also a Pretorius Outeniqua like my wife’s (but rim brake and much older). Actually we’ve ended up with quite a matchy matchy collection (especially once I get the Day One up and running next to her CdF).

Given this bike does some pretty big miles and takes everything from grotty winter miles to summer crits I've never seen a reason to upgrade from mechanical Ultegra despite lots of other bits breaking or being swapped out.

I bought these Eleven Sprocket wheels second hand for next to nothing in a rush pre-race (as my old wheels got totalled in a crash). They're pretty light but the braking is bollocks. I'll get rid of them when I get round to it and get something nice.

I won't be racing crits again ever I doubt. I can't be bothered with the crashes and general alpha male nonsense I've come across in that scene (maybe it was more like that abroad than here though). I much prefer the TT/hill-climb scene. Everyone seems pretty chilled out and friendly and in real life (fortunately) nothing like the horror-show that is the TT forum.

If I’m not racing it I could get some nice wheels for the Pretorius and not worry about them getting banged-up. Not a priority by a long shot though. The Turbo Cotton tires are pretty dreamy though.
