  • Been digging through piles of loft crap to eBay and came across this old Bakelite Smiths wall stop clock that I bought at an antiques fair years ago. I used to use it when we had a punch bag in the workshop but anyone got an idea of what it should’ve been used for? Pull one cord to wind the mainspring, other cord resets to zero.
More to the point anyone want it for £30?! Still works, approx 30cm diameter, bit scarred.

  • Got a wrist shot?

  • inchpincher What are the dimensions?

  • So is it just a stopwatch with min/sec, or does it also tell the time?

I'm pretty tempted, but can't think of where or when I'd use it.

  • It has two scales. Seconds and minutes. What do you think? :P

  • This is more of a Flava Flav accessory, #chestshot #notaeuph

    @Condorlini 30cm diameter

@hugo7 it’s just a timer, in fact it doesn’t really ‘stop’, the reset cord just zeros the hands and off it goes again. Posh egg timer?

  • Spoke to Hiscox about watches, they said I was covered up to £500. I've asked them to increase that slightly, and they've had to go and speak to their underwriters.

  • Is that before or after the 20% price hike in their renewal letter?

  • Slow brain day... I do in fact have a brutal headache which has come from nowhere.

@inchpincher - cheers. If I had a different kitchen I would actually be all over that as an egg timer.

@Dammit - Hiscox? Really? I'd always thought of them as the Banhams of insurance. Pretty sure one of my first contents policies with Directly Line gave me something like £30k total, with £5k item limit per watch/jewellery, off the bat.

  • M&S insurance cover up to £15k per watch without having to list each item. Cheaper than Hiscox by a long way also.

  • They wouldn’t cover the bikes

  • Wouldnt be a problem if you sold your bikes and bought watches instead like me. Like happy fat me.

  • Try Halifax?

Max £10k total bike pool value though. Nice problem to have I guess.

  • That's not enough unfortunately.

  • Does anyone have any experience of having Omega Chronograph movements (cal. 1861) serviced with a traditional watchmaker/ watch repair service? Would there be a similar warranty offered generally?

Or is it worth ponying up the ~£600 and go with Omega?

  • And does the whole polishing rigmarole apply w/ Omega a la Rolex?

  • Not had an omega done but a brietling and a Rolex serviced by Alsal watches, both came with a years guarantee which they honoured when something went wrong on the Rolex fifty one weeks later. They did say the Rolex which initially was in for a repair and service may have to go to Rolex if a rare spare part was needed but in the end all was fine. So in short I would check a reputable repair shop before manufacturers . It was considerably cheaper as well

  • That's not enough unfortunately.

    Swap them for watches!

  • Might be of interest to some here - explorer dial Steinhart Ocean 39 with an acrylic crystal, lume “pearl”, etc. Gnomon are claiming it as an exclusive.

  • Thanks to inchpincher for the great box. Now I’m pondering how to fill it. To me it looks fantastic right now.

  • Just go to Simon Freese or STS, they won't be the cheapest, but they will do a perfect job

  • 👍

You chose a bad year if you want to start collecting Moonwatches... get some Seiko in your life.

  • Speaking of Seiko, I've got a couple of Seiko's, a Lord Master and King Seiko, on their way to me from a guy on reddit.com/r/watchexchange. If anyone see's anything on there from someone who will only ship to the U.S., I'm more than happy to act as a proxy. There are some mad bargains on there.

  • If only Steinhart would put out a 1016 homage, they would do a great job... Cheap as chips and they'd sell millions of them...

  • 36mm Everest ftw
