What's the best route from Elephant to Paddington? Bored of Westminster Bridge / Parl Square, seems to take about 20 mins to get across the river...

What was going on in London last night, seemed like traffic, police, closed tube stations all over. Madness

I bought a 9l saddle bag thing from Planet X for £20 quid the other week. Tred it out this morning and my god its so much nicer than commuting with a back pack.

I do know that down jackets are not to be cycled in, but yet I still do it.

Ye I saw the crowd of people outside Waterloo as I left work, definitely glad I was on the bike last night

What route are you taking atm? CS6 from E&C to Blackfriars and then CS3 from Blackfriars onwards is a nice route.

At the moment I’m going past Lambeth North from Elephant and then crossing Westminster Bridge. Doing that to get to Birdcage Walk seems to take about 20 mins

• #26063
How come it takes you so long, traffic? CS6/CS3 from Elephant to Birdcage Walk took me 12 mins today according to strava and I wasn't really pushing it. Nice not to have to think about cars as well, because its all segregated.

couple of gangs of dickheads on Q1 and Surrey Canal Path this evening, blocking people and threatening to knock people off. does the warm weather bring them out or something?
-
• #26065
Sorry about that. I do love a good bit of intimidation on a warm Friday evening.

Finished work at 4. Cycled home in glorious sun only realise I left my phone at work so happily turned back round and picked it up. It was still 8 degrees when I got home.

For variety you could go Lambeth Walk and Lambeth Bridge then either Horseferry, and round Victoria (playing with traffic) or Embankment Sloane Square-ish. Basically head to Hyde Park, then through the Park.
Doubt these will be quicker but variety is the Spice of Life.
Or, go the other way and hit Waterloo Bridge, through Covent Garden then Bloomsbury and Marylebone.

There must have been something very special about the surf today. This is Littlehampton East Beach at around 8 o’clock this morning...

LNER to edinburgh - first class, or that should be "first" class - broken seat, broken wobbly table , luke warm coffee* luke warm "full english" (1 sausage 1 bacon 1 egg 1 mushroom, thats it) and only just got that as about to run out!
- coffee on the broken table spills every time a train comes past in the other direction.

Man in that stupid ugly Bentley 4x4 squeezes past me on Hornsey road this morning, then gets in front of me and slows down due to the traffic in front of me that he could obviously see. Go past him literally seconds later and give him a piece of my mind and he shouts abuse back at me. Classic.

Q1 through bloomsberry was absolutely bumper to bumper with lorries, vans, dust bin lorries! Not very Q
-
• #26073
You expected someone in a Bentley 4x4 to have a modicum of class?
-
• #26074
No, not really. Which probably made me swear even more than necessary. I was not surprised in any way at all by what happened to be honest.
-
• #26075
nobody's driving a 4x4 bentley by being considerate or thoughtful towards other people.
I've taught myself to stay zen in that kind of situation - not worth the waste of time shouting match or the elevated temper afterwards IMO

Last night I locked my bike up in the hangar and immediately became aware of a guy coming up very close behind me and invading my personal space a bit. I got concerned he was going to try to take my keys or something and spun around and he was walking along with a massive brandy glass in his hand. I stepped out of his way and he carried on and took a little sip as he went.
