  • Thanks. I had the tube and the frame was free. The only thing I cannot waste is workshop time so it had to be done :)

  • Sensation!

  • Why not go for a topper/integrated seatpost? Looks like there's plenty of tube left for even your legs..

Or will it cause problems with the momentum at the spot where you joined the tubes? Why did you do it that way and not replace the whole tube from lug to lug?

  • Good questions! But he wouldnt be able to use the cool zoomy seatpost ;)

  • I am too heavy for that.

  • People have asked about the joint.
I used an old 1 1/8" (aka OD 28.6) steerer and turned it down on the lathe. 20mm at OD27.2 and 20mm at OD26.8.
I then put flux on the inside of the joint and heated it up attempting to get brass to flow into the joint and create a solid joint.
As this is a bike for me I don't mind taking the risk. But I can't recommend others do the same. Replacing the whole tube is better but I wanted to keep as much of the paint and bosses working and this was a lot quicker
Edit: The drawing is wrong but numbers are right

  • Mad skills, one of my fave threads to read whenever you've posted something new!

  • So awesome dude! 👏

Very pleased it’s in your capable hands now.

I like those square edged track ends a lot!

  • Thanks. They were the holy grail for me for sooo long. It brings me right back to 2008

  • I need a fixie rear wheel. Preferably black hub, black rim brake rim and silver spokes. And wide 19mm internal rim. But cheap is more important...

Anybody who has something they like to sell or swap for frame mods or stuff from my sales thread?

  • Frame mods you say..? 😯

    Maybe too beatery?

  • Mmm yes that those look a bit worn.
    How is the hub doing?

  • Not used it for an age, as it is now it turns smoothly but there is a smidge of play in the axle. V beatery in any case :). If nothing better comes along i will remove the axle and take a look at the races?

  • Thanks. I am not sure if I am into cup n cone. This will be a bike for for shit weather commuting and low maintenance...

  • No problem, good luck with the search!

  • I have found a rear wheel thanks to @broken_777

I believe I have all other bits for the bastard fixie rando. DA 16T cog, 46T Stronglight chainring, Shimano 600 cranks (the boxy looking kind that looks a bit like Sugino 75), black Cane Creek headset, bars, stem and levers...

I am just needing some springs for the cantis I am afraid.
Any ideas of where to get hold of them cheapest??

  • Found some second hand incomplete Frogglegs that had the springs. So search is over...

  • I see you've just chopped the stays to remove the dropouts rather than try to debraze anything, are your new ends large enough to span the gap or are you going to have to 'pull' things in a bit?

  • There is plenty of stays to work with still as I am using Campagnolo track ends. They are quite large.
I didn't really cut much off the stays. You can still see the dropout tabs inside the stays.
I find it better to cut and file rather than heat and pull. Sometimes you end up damaging the tubes when overheating like that.

  • Like this. Ish

  • So you don’t end up with this in other words...

    Lesson learned!

  • :-)

    make it 650b

  • It is was for a 27” wheel so 700c would be the next size down but I’ve completely removed the seat and chainstays now so we’ll see where it goes. Fork is 27” too but that could be changed.

  • Cut out middle part of fork legs and and super compliant sheet metal and you have a diy gravel fork - problem solved :D
