he has done some great stuff but I cant get by the grandstanding and his odd outbursts. space x is v good, pay pal good but tesla cars not so good.
it's a shame as tesla cars could be amazing but they are built very oddly. The electronic tech is brilliant but the shell it sits in is over built and way too expensive, to really change the car world he need to reinvent the mini concept but an electric car

His flamethrower was pretty rad.

He got to kiss Grimes (I imagine), so he might as well quit while he's ahead.

Peter Thiel started Paypal too - do you have to be a massive cunt to be a tech entrepreneur?

You don't have to be but they're definitely in the majority. Supreme arrogance and willing to shit all over people are common traits amongst many successful entrepreneurs.
Even if someone seems reasonable they'll probably eventually out themselves as a massive twat at some point.

In my experience, it helps.

Unusual self-confidence is a requirement. Some people have that while also being calm and reasonable - assertive in the good sense - but that seems to be harder than being self-confident and an asshole of immense diameter. Maybe it's just that the Elon Musks of the world are always so much more visible than the Warren Buffetts.

Disagree with you both. He's in the process of making a successful car company. And launching rockets. And redefining transport as we know it. He's reignited everyone's fascination with space again and strangely we need it as a species to survive. He's a bit of a showman but so what?
And the PayPal thing, so what? He's taken his winnings off that and made something of it.
Tesla is also forced other manufacturers to get on board. Reduce our carbon footprint.
You know, all good things.

electric cars are a pretty short sighted / short term solution that further encourages single vehicle use and discounts public transport - something musk is on record as saying is beneath him, not to mention that the lack of ethically sourced raw materials for the batteries that run his cars - the cobalt required for lithium-ion batteries has been linked to child labour in the Congo.
there's plenty of people in dire need of a good meal and roof over their heads right here on terra firma that could benefit from his largesse.
nah fam, these are not good things

He's just released all his car patents hasn't he? Still a massive bellend, but compared to all the other ultra rich massive bellends knocking about more quietly, he seems a bit less evil.

But the status quo was fucked up to start with. In fact the status quo is more than beyond fucked up... So it's beneath him... So... Someone else will pick up the mantle. Let's put it this way, the prius was the the first failed attempt. Its a hybrid. It was a gazzion years old when he turned up. No one else. No one.
He's also stepping in to the truck side.
And almost ANYTHING done on a super mass scale is going to fuck the environment. When we move to hydrogen oxygen, we'll be fucked.
The point is he is trying.
Some say he's not doing enough. Others in the wrong way.
He's not a Saint. So don't judge him as one. But he's trying see to the bigger picture. Tesla gives him money for space. He has advanced battery tech for the car. He's using the car to give us time.
So let's ask, what's what would be the better move over tesla?
Nah fam, does he give a man a fish, or he can teach a man to fish.
And if it encourages others to do the same, all the better.

Why the fuck is everyone in here like "oooh paypal, it's so great"?
It's not great, its a shit service with extortionate fees and ridiculous processing times that bases itself outwith the reaches of the countries it does most of it's business in so that it can't be held accountable.
Its a bit of a necessary evil but evil none the less.

Calling Musk an entrepreneur is dubious. He's just a mini-trump who got his start after receiving loadsa money from his dad, who in turn made his cash by ravaging the natural resources of small African nations. Great guys.

ridiculous processing times
I’m with you on fees, but processing times? I’ve always had access to funds immediately, and for a long time now it’s been possible to withdraw money to a bank account instantly.

I was thinking more about refunds and disputes.

• #24523
Have you ever tried to get a refund through a "real" bank ??
And you're complaining about PayPal.
Wake up ! -

Please let us have "your dictionary's" definition of Entrepreneur !?
Also tell us who you think is a true Entrepreneur . -

Would any of the major car manufacturers even consider moving away from diesel and petrol if it weren't for Tesla?
Would banks do a better (less shit) job if Paypal didn't exist?
Would we have the same momentum in the space race as it is without SpaceX?
Of course he's not perfect, but who is? All in all though I think he does more good than harm. Even if his particular ventures aren't the best way forwards, he's pushing things in a better direction, forcing others to reconsider what they're doing.
and accusing men who upset his salty ego of being kiddy fiddlers.
and appearing on the joe fucking rogan show.
