Right - I have ordered some race matrix Uberbike pads, some Shimano XT RT86 Ice-Tec rotors and some TRP compressionless cables. Will report back
Finally got round to swapping cables, discs and pads this weekend. It has made a large but not mind blowing difference so far. I guess everything still bedding in. The pull certainly feels more solid with the compressionless outers, braking seems stronger and I am not getting the sort of juddering I was.
The descent of Anerley Hill this evening (with the inevitable red lights at the station) will be the big test.
I am going to stick with this setup for now and see how it goes.

I need a Shimano BR-RS785 caliper. Anybody have one laying around?
NOW sorted

How did it go?

Anyone has a Hope RX4 bleed block going spare for loan or sale? Bought a caliper sans the other bits so yeah if anyone could help out that'll be brilliant!
-
• #5637
I can measure the ones at work tomorrow and you can use something the same thickness, but I'd probably just bodge it with whatever is to hand that is slightly thinner than the gap and blocks all 4 pistons.

cut up some loyalty cards and glue/band them together, job done.
-
• #5639
Cheers man! Could bodge one but checking if anyone has a spare going since the block comes with each caliper.
-
• #5640
If they do make sure you get 2, they kind of come as 2 thick pads rather than 1 block, but you get 2 with each caliper so spares should be about.

Just ordered a set of Clarks CMD-22 disk brakes. Look like copies of TRP Spyres, lets see if they are good value at £46...https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143023331161

Wonder if they copied the original design flaw in Spyres where the ball bearings would jump out of their ramps.
-
• #5644
I could, but I don't like buying things of that value from China - up to £20 fine, if something goes wrong, I'll live with it. At around £50, i've had too many things I've wanted to return / got into awkward convos in broken in english to want to do it again...
Also that's still £20 quid more and 6 weeks of sitting waiting and wishing.
I bought a seatpost last year that was undersized, the refund is still "pending" and I've not worked out how to actually escalate it beyond the seller, who simply says it's up to Aliexpress now...

Let's hope not - how do I avoid that issue in the first place or do they just do it of their own accord?
-
• #5646
@Señor_Bear buys all rapha clothing from china

• #5647
how do I avoid that issue in the first place
Don't let the pads get too worn out + then adjust the thing to compensate using the barrel adjuster or by re-positioning the actuation arm. Basically the balls exit when the arm is pulled too far.

• #5648
I have this problem too.

• #5649
Thanks - will try and keep my balls where they're needed.
Did I read your post wrong asking for tricks?
