I thought you might, just wanted to set the record straight. :)
I have fond memories of playing that.
Games were simpler then; things started to really change with the next GotY, "Dampfross"--'Railway Rivals' in English and actually designed by a Welshman, David Watts, who couldn't get it published in Britain. It became a huge success in Germany and people began to think differently about boardgames, with many innovative ones published over the next two decades.

Anyone here played Zombicide?
after watching some nerds play it on youtube for a bit I just ordered the Rue Morgue edition for something to do whilst getting twatted over christmas. seems like a fairly well balanced game where it's more than just moving pieces around the board but not quite the token management game like a lot of the campaign based board games. Eldritch horror was also on my list but i figured it might be too much to learn quickly.
I have a strong suspicion my gf will still give up about 20 minutes in as she can't even watch a film in a single sitting. but still going to try and give it a go.
will probably be looking for people to play it with me in the new year so it wasn't a colossal waste of money.

The kids and me are enjoying playing Once Upon a Time.
Anyone else got any new games for Christmas? -

We gave my girlfriends brother and partner Seven Wonders for christmas, which was really fun. Each game took about 30 minutes once we had learned the rules. Was a nice change from Catan which is our usual yuletide game of choice. I find players (myself included) often get jaded when it becomes clear they don't stand a chance of winning a game early on especially when playing an 1+ hour game with 5-6 players.
We also bought them Avocado Smash which is like the classic card game Snap, with some extra brain bending rules to make it harder - very tense stuff.
Played some interesting Swedish/Finnish card game which was like rummy but with 15 rounds (need to get a copy of the rules), and a variation of Yaniv which was also fun.

Just ordered a copy of Gloomhaven. anyone played it?
After Red Dead Redemption 2 there's not been much in the way of video games that appeal so thought I'd get this and spend my evenings playing the campaign solo as it seems to get a lot of positive feedback and I've been enjoying my solo games of zombicide thus far when there's nothing on the tv.

In addition there's a new gaming cafe literally a couple hundred yards from the roebuck called bad moon cafe which does beer and pizza and lets you hire large gaming tables for about £12 for the whole evening so have been planning on getting a few small groups together to play some zombicide or if it appeals maybe gloomhaven once I've got the hang of it (though I think the ramp up in complexity makes it much less pick up and play friendly for one off sessions).
if anyone is interested i'm happy to organise something.

I'd be down for giving Gloomhaven a go.
If you need players

just found out I have to go look after my mum down in brighton next week but will try and organise something the week after maybe, will give me enough time to learn the basics so we're not clueless going into it too.

Gloomhaven arrived about 1.30pm, only just now getting into my first campaign.
so. many. pieces.
look at all that stuff.
and that's not even all of it, there's another 38-40 boxes of bits for the character classes. (note also the stack of EIGHTEEN empty sheets of cutouts i had to separate).
the box is nearly 10kg

bimbling around on reddit I found a link to this tale of a guy and his friend trying to learn what sounds like the most complicated board game in existence.
it's super long (roughly 40 pages according to the comments below it) but compellingly written and just staggeringly incomprehensible that such things exist and there are people out there who have mastered them.

I went to Proceed Clockwise last week and it's a good setup. £5 / person for the table, beer and good pizza available, with a large selection of games.
@Oliver Schick @Drakien are you up for one evening after work? How about week commencing 11 March?
Anyone else interested?
-
• #496
I'm well up for it, but in the week starting the 11th I can only do Tuesday 12th. Don't let me block it, though, if more people plump for another evening. In that case, I'll just come to the second one.
-
• #497
Tuesday 12th works for me. Lets put that in as a tentative date and see if anyone else can join.
Any suggestions on games to play?

Tyrants of the Underdark is my new favorite. -

This game I backed is nearly at the end of its kickstarter run and may be of interest to some people here.
In the hall of the Mountain King
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/burntislandgames/in-the-hall-of-the-mountain-king/description
the stretch goals that have been met make this feel like a pretty decent amount of stuff to get in the box for the deluxe version (£51) especially now they just added the solo/co-op expansion for free and the gameplay I've seen on youtube (links at bottom of KS page) makes it look like a nice low-mid weight game which you can get people up and running with in in a few minutes but has enough complexity to offer a bit of a challenge still.
it closes in 40 hours or so, if you're interested act fast. this is my first KS i've backed so any due diligence should be done by yourself just in case, but i thought it looks pretty great.

oh and less than 17 hours until this Tremors inspired game closes as well. seems a bit more simplistic game wise but could be quite fun and is towards cheaper end (£30ish I think)

Sorry I did mean new to me, I did know it was very old, we played a version from the 90s that was in "like new" condition.
It was good fun and a welcome change from the hours and hours long games we normally play.
