  • Okay cheers! Found this article too; https://advntr.cc/pinnacle-announce-new-arkose-range/
    No more fluo :(

  • Does the 2017 women's Arkose take 650b? This one. And if so up to what size?

@jameso @edscoble I'm looking at this frameset for my partner and in the Q&A it says no 650b. Is this so? Not that it necessarily matters but I'm curious.

  • Arkose 2017-18 and 2019, men's and women's, all take 650B. Women's bike is a fraction lower at the BB so stick to 47C rather than 42s.

  • Bollocks, it'll fit.

  • Want to use the 650b wheels from my Iroko 2 (2016) on gravel bike, gonna need some thou axle adapters, but can't find the hubs listed anywhere. Anyone either know what they are, or can recommend a 'universal' adapter kits

  • Wait...29er?

So I have and Iroko 2. Did not google properly before posting, have edited post now.

Thanks all the same! It's probably similar anyway I'd guess.

  • Anyone ridden both Arkose and Dolomite? I've heard numerous times as good as the Arkose is it doesn't really cut it as a road bike, wandering if there's more potential with the Dolomite for something that can be both practical and nimble on the road.

  • I've ridden my Dolomite embarrassingly little, but it's definitely a better road bike than the Arkose and a good all-rounder.

  • Cheers. Not surprising it's better on the road than an Arkose, any opinion on how it compares to other (lighter/more focused) disc road bikes?

  • Afraid I've not ridden anything faster. It's an awful lot better than my Genesis Equilibrium was. It's got a long and lowish stem on it and it feels road bike enough to me.

  • On the above - I've ridden my Arkose predominantly on road and it's never felt particularly unwieldy. It's not a fast disc road bike, but it was never supposed to be. Mine is my winter trainer on 47c 650s and it's wonderful.

Having said that, you could ride a Dolomite off-road well enough too. Bikes are much more capable than marketing departments would have you believe.

(by off-road I mean gravel, fire roads, summer cross etc etc rather than 8 foot drop offs and rock gardens)

  • pretty sure the dolomite can take 32s - mine is currently on 25s and feels fairly sprightly, but i don't have any other lighter/more focused road bikes to compare it to...only heavier ones!
similar to @umop3pisdn i've not ridden mine a huge amount. most of my riding is commuting which i tend to do on other bikes.

  • Thanks all for the feedback. I'm trying to limit bikes, particularly ones that won't get used much and having a road bike that can do more than just road is very appealing. I'm just trying to avoid ending up with something that feels sluggish as i'd imagine 80% of it's time will be spent on the road.

  • I wouldn't say it's sluggish. Mine rides nice, even with mudguards, heavy 32 spoke wheels and winter tyres. And I'm normally quite fussy about how road bikes feel.

  • I'd say the latest Arkose doesn't look that bad as an all-round bike. Taller, so may appeal if you ride with a stack of spacers.
Still would go for the Dolomite, 32c is enough for the odd towpath excursion

  • Cheers, i'm definitely leaning that way.

The one thing i'm worried about is the length, long wheel base and tyre clearance adds up to quite a long reach. In fact it's the same as the 54 CAAD 9 i'm currently thinking of replacing it with as that feels a little long. But that's probably more my current level of flexibility and that i haven't ridden road in over a year. Perhaps the ton of extra stack will help.

Could go with the small i suppose but at 5,10" (t-rex) that seems a little ridic.

  • I intend to use my arkose D3 as a winter trainer/CX bike in the off-season. in summer, I'll use it for gravel and touring/bikepacking

I don't think it'll be a whippet but I hope it's not fully dead on road

  • I normally ride XL at 6'1", but have gone for an L and it's spot on.

  • are they still doing the dolomite? just checked on the website and it's not listed...

  • Just checked, 2017 framesets still available. As are the forks that look like a good option for converting my Tokyo Dart to disc as it already has an O/S headtube with tapered fork.

  • Just picked up a cheap 2018 dolomite for the winter months. Going to pick up some guards for it this eve and take it out for a spin tomorrow!

  • What's the biggest knobbly tyre you guys have managed to get on a 2015 Arkose? (QR, full carbon fork)
Wondering whether I could get away with 43mm Gravelking SKs.

  • Ask Evans directly? They might have it in their website.
