I think those E88's need VAT added, so €5,000, which is £4,400 vs £3,200. Is a lot.

Plus a grands worth of tyres. I think I've talked myself out of this one.

narrow body car, same as the Cup, which raced extensively on E88's.
Yeah, but that has a bodykit and fuckoff big spoiler. I'm just not sure a stock body cab is comparable. But I get that you want a period level of authenticity.

Hmm has me thinking of 924 Carrera GTR

• #46556
I think the 996 Mk1 GT3 rims were nice, probably not a huge weight penalty over the RS or LMs and would look in keeping with the rest of the car plus a whole lot cheaper
-
• #46557
They're quite a bit heavier than the ones I have on the car now, and the proper GT3 ones (wider fronts) are very rare. I agree that they are nice, but not sufficiently so for me to spend the money for them.
I think that the rears in particular look too tucked in, so maybe some lower offset rims on the back would look good - I don't want to fit spacers (even though Porsche themselves did with the GT3).

Love the look of both wheels on 996's but especially like the E88's for the motorsport/Porsche cup heritage.
Obviously the cost make them prohibitive so I thought of a couple of options. I've seen quite a few 996s with the CCW 3-piece wheels and I really like the look of them. Even better in that you can have them built with different colours/finished to the centres, lips and barrels as well as spec-ing width and offset.

There's Image Wheels in the UK as well, but I'd rather stick with what I have than go for the homage.
-
• #46560
I wouldn't recommend Image wheels from the experiences of a few people I know.
-
• #46561
Yeah, I wouldn't go with Image either. If it was mine I'd be going for something that looked a bit more aggressive/motorsport focused. I've never been a fan of the OEM 5 spokes.
-
• #46562
The 5 spokes are the same width and offset as the GT3 BBS wheels, but quite a lot lighter (and also made by BBS), which is why I went for them.
I've got lost in the world of offsets now. BBS LM's are available in:
Front
8.5 ET56
9 ET50Rear
10 ET 50
11 ET 56I'm unsure whether the 11's would fit without rolling the arches.

I might have missed it but what size are you going for? 18's or 17's? Have you also decided on tyres and the profiles you'll be running?
-
• #46564
Some kind of huge flat fronted rotiforms, might as well :)

Probably 18’s to give scope for larger brakes once we know what the engine will do. Designer is using the 6R4 International engine as his bhp/litre guide, which was (in its later, reliable guise) 125bhp/litre. That makes quite a lot (at 8,000rpm) from my 3.7 litre. So! Will I need to go up an inch on the rear tyre, or will 400+ horsepower be more fun with 285 section rubber?
-
• #46567
i like the wheels that are on it.
-
• #46568
So you're aiming for 450bhp-ish? Personally, I'd go a bit wider if I could. A 996 turbo was circa 420bhp and 4wd. This sounds like it's going to be getting close to GT2 levels of power and as a result I'd be doing big brakes and as much rubber as I could get!
-
• #46569
I honestly don't know where we'll end up, power wise. Less than 400bhp and we've failed, more than the 997.1 GT3 and I think we'll call that a success.
The turbo had massive torque, don't forget - and was much heavier. But that said, yes - I suspect my brakes won't be adequate, but I'm not going to change those for now.
It had occurred to me to go back to 17's, with the increased power, just to get the car moving around at sane speeds, but I'd probably be backwards through a hedge in seconds.

Also I've just paid a deposit to EJ for this, so the wheels are officially parked for a while:

Lovely timepiece!
Have you considered any of the Fifteen52 Outlaw wheels? They're quite nice!
HRE make some lovely wheels too, particularly their Vintage series.
My vote would be for a set of Work Meisters though...

But probably next year.

The wheels on your bike cost that much, and there’s only two of them.
My friend with far too much money, the one with the 360 CS has E88 on 3/4 of his 911s and they look just perfect.
As someone who grew up a little bit obsessed with BBS LM wheels, it's definitely a big thing for me to say E88 now instead of LM. Although LM-R is also a good choice.
