  • Cheers @B0N0R.

I should have said. The BB is Chris King.

So from looking at that it seems you can add a wavy washer to the drive side to pack it out a little. I think this would solve my issue.

Before reading those instructions I had a chat with a mechanic in Evans this morning as I'd seen they sell press fit seals and the wavy washers. He said you wouldn't use spacers outside of the BB, rather you'd need to space the BB before installing it...

I'm going to order a wavy washer and see what happens

  • Hi Andrew.

Can you put up a pic of the BB and cranks so I can see where the gap is. I left the BB in with all the spacers etc I needed in it for the SRAM rival cranks I used in it. I've always had a wavy washer (as you describe it) on all the SRAM cranks (these are supplied with the cranks rather than the BB I think). I use SRAM cranks on most of my bikes as my PM(s) are all GXP so I can swap them around. I had SRAM rival cranks on the Macho Man with the BB you are using and with the washer it was perfect. I've also swapped the Rivals for the exact cranks you are using so I'm 99% certain that the wavy washer will sort your play issues. I'm no mechanic but I think what I'm telling you is right. Bike already look great btw.

  • Awesome, I think it should be solved with this wavy washer. Am going to pick one up Monday. Thanks for the reply!

  • Wavy washer solved the problem.

Still looking for a set of disc brakes and rotors, 10 speed shifter. Then grab some compressionless housing and I should be able to build it up a little quicker.

  • I have a set of shimano cable discs and a set of sram 10 speed shifters for sale.

  • Sloooooow progress. But, I have the disc brakes, bars and a new chainring installed, just need to get the gears and brakes properly setup then I think I can go for a pootle on this thing.

  • why are you routing for front mech?

  • My guess is that’s still in there from when I sold him the frameset. Left the cables in as it can help with fitting new cables. I’m sure they’ll get pulled out for this 1x set up.

Looks superb with the risers btw. 👍👍

  • Indeed I haven't pulled the cables out yet.

  • She lives! That didn't take long did it. First ride in today on a cold but sunny Glasgow morning. Needs some tweaking to fit a little better and might get a shorter stem on there but it's a lovely ride indeed.

Next steps will be to get some lighter wheels as they are pretty heavy and add significant weight to it.

**Disclaimer: Pedals/straps are not final, just off my old bike until my new pedals arrive.

  • Quality! Nice build! It's great to see someone else's interpretation of a much loved old friend 👌

  • no cassette?

  • @B0N0R there is a cassette on the build. Just some shadowing trickery making it hard to see.

  • Looking good. How you finding 1x at the top and bottom of the cassette ranges? Would like to build something like this for my next bike.

  • Cheers @Drano - the 1x works perfectly. I was skeptical at first but with some fine tuning it is super smooth. +1 for the 1x

    It's a SunRace MS3 10-speed (11-40) - which works well for the Glasgow hills.
