From experience (all be it 15 years ago now) the MIM Jazz vary hugely from bass to bass. Some sound absolutely dead out the box so would try before you buy. There are some awesome ones though, kept my Mex over the American when I downsized.
Word. Good Mex are incredible. My Fretless MIM Jazz is the best I've ever played. That epoxy fingerboard glow <3
I really want a maple fingerboard, alder Precision though... or a Fodera Monarch P Classic.

My MIM tele was the best playing in the shop, even compared to £3k custom shop jobs. Pickups were a bit weak but that’s a £100 upgrade!
